An oriented coloring of planar graphs with girth at least five [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
An oriented k-coloring of an oriented graph G is a homomorphism from G to an oriented graph H of order k. We prove that every oriented graph with a maximum average degree less than 103 and girth at least 5 has an oriented chromatic number at most 16 ...

Colorings and girth of oriented planar graphs

open access: yesDiscrete Mathematics, 1997
Let \(G=(V,E)\) and \(H=(V',E')\) be graphs (possibly digraphs). A homomorphism from \(G\) to \(H\) is any mapping \(f:V\to V'\) satisfying \([x,y]\in E\Rightarrow [f(x),f(y)]\in E'.\) Here the brackets on both sides of the implication mean the same thing: either an edge or an arc.

Rapidly Solidified High‐Strength Invar 36 Prepared by Planar‐Flow Melt Spinning

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The Invar 36 alloy was rapidly solidified using the planar‐flow melt‐spinning technique. Ribbon samples with thicknesses ranging from 20 to 160 mm were produced. As the grain size of the ribbon decreased to sub‐micron levels, the hardness increased by more than 2 times.

Effects of Mg on Microstructure and Solidification of a Hypereutectic Zn–8 wt.%Al Alloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An appreciable set of results involving thermal data, microstructure, chemical composition, and microstructural growth laws is reported for ZnAlMg alloys. Such results demonstrate that ZnAlMg alloys have high potential for applications in automotive self‐lubricating components, batteries, and electrical systems.

Color-avoiding connected colorings and orientations

open access: yes
We study network robustness under correlated failures modeled by colors, where each color represents a class of edges or vertices that may fail simultaneously. An edge-colored graph is said to be edge-color-avoiding $k$-edge-connected if it remains $k$-edge-connected after the removal of all edges of any single color.

Forbidden Subgraph Colorings and the Oriented Chromatic Number

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Combinatorics, 2009
We present an improved upper bound of O(d^1^+^1^m^-^1) for the (2,F)-subgraph chromatic number @g"2","F(G) of any graph G of maximum degree d. Here, m denotes the minimum number of edges in any member of F. This bound is tight up to a (logd)^1^/^(^m^-^1^) multiplicative factor and improves the previous bound presented in Aravind and Subramanian (2011) [

FastNano Liquid: An Automated Platform for Small‐Angle X‐ray Scattering‐Based Materials Discovery

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
We present FastNano Liquid, an automated small‐ and wide‐angle X‐ray scattering platform for the combined synthesis and characterization of (nano)materials. The platform is coupled to varied reactor workflows for both in situ studies of reaction kinetics and ex situ screening of synthesis conditions to support machine learning‐guided exploration ...

Control of Polarization and Polar Helicity in BiFeO3 by Epitaxial Strain and Interfacial Chemistry

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In BiFeO3 thin films, the interplay of interfacial chemistry, electrostatics, and epitaxial strain is engineered to stabilize homohelicity in polarization textures at the domain scale. The synergistic use of a Bi2O2‐terminated Aurivillius buffer layer and a highly anisotropic compressive epitaxial strain offers new routes to control the polar‐texture ...
