Office‐Based Drainage of a Parapharyngeal Abscess with Surgeon‐Performed Transoral Ultrasound

open access: yesThe Laryngoscope, EarlyView.
This case report presents the use of transoral ultrasound as a novel imaging technique to diagnose and aspirate a parapharyngeal abscess (PPA) under local anesthesia in an outpatient setting. A parapharyngeal abscess (PPA) was diagnosed and aspirated under local anesthesia using transoral ultrasound by an ENT surgeon.

Volume Outcome Relationships of Oropharyngeal Cancer Patients Undergoing Transoral Robotic Surgery

open access: yesThe Laryngoscope, EarlyView.
Volume outcome relationships of transoral robotic surgery (TORS) remain incompletely analyzed. In this national retrospective cohort study, we consistently found that patients receiving TORS at high‐volume centers in the United States experienced lower positive margin rates, reduced perioperative mortality, and increased overall survival than patients ...

Major Human Leukocyte Antigen Expression in Respiratory Papillomatosis Clinical Specimens

open access: yesThe Laryngoscope, EarlyView.
Major HLA class I expression was consistently observed on the majority of papilloma cells across 15 clinical specimens, supporting the hypothesis that HPV‐infected epithelial cells can be detected and eliminated by HPV‐specific CD8+ T cells if present.

Can the Repetitive Saliva Swallow Test Predict Airway Invasion in All Cause Dysphagia?

open access: yesThe Laryngoscope, EarlyView.
The repetitive saliva swallow test (RSST) was evaluated for its ability to predict airway invasion in an all‐cause dysphagia population through a retrospective study of 87 adult outpatients. The study found that higher RSST scores correlated with a lower likelihood of airway invasion, demonstrating 89% sensitivity and 34% specificity at an optimal ...

Adjuvant Radiotherapy in pT1‐2N0M0 Head and Neck Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma

open access: yesThe Laryngoscope, EarlyView.
pT1‐2N0M0 adenoid cystic carcinoma of the head and neck represents a rare, moderate‐risk disease category with high variation in treatment strategies, due to the inconsistent data on the survival benefit of adjuvant radiotherapy in lower‐staged disease.

Assessing the Accuracy, Safety, and Tolerance of Office‐Based Endoscopic Biopsies for Laryngopharyngeal Lesions

open access: yesThe Laryngoscope, EarlyView.
This prospective study assessed the accuracy, safety, and tolerance of 490 office‐based biopsies for the diagnosis of laryngopharyngeal lesions. Results showed that OBBs, mainly taken from the glottic and supraglottic larynx, were generally well‐tolerated, with a low complication rate and high diagnostic accuracy.

New Anatomic Landmark for Perforator of Anterolateral Thigh Flap in Preoperative Ultrasonography

open access: yesThe Laryngoscope, EarlyView.
We defined the new anatomic landmark for proximal ALT perforator. The junction between the tensor fasciae latae and the iliotibial tract can serve as a reliable anatomic landmark for the dominant perforator of the ALT flap. ABSTRACT Objectives The midpoint of the thigh is a well‐known anatomic landmark for the perforators of the anterolateral thigh ...

Prognostic factor identification by screening changes in differentially expressed genes in oral squamous cell carcinoma

open access: yesOral Diseases, Volume 29, Issue 1, Page 116-127, January 2023., 2023
Abstract Objective This study was designed to identify changes in the expression of proteins occurring during the progression of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) and to validate their impact on patient prognosis. Materials and Methods The human OSCC cell line UPCI‐SCC‐040 was treated in vitro with TGF‐β1, and transcriptome analysis of differentially
