Immersed Boundary Projection Method for Boundaries With Slip Velocities

open access: yesInternational Journal for Numerical Methods in Fluids, EarlyView.
A formulation of the immersed boundary method for incompressible flow over arbitrarily‐shaped bodies with surface slip described by the Navier boundary condition is presented. The wall slip velocity and the boundary force are determined implicitly through a projection to satisfy both the boundary condition and the divergence‐free condition of the ...

Industry Portfolio Volatility Connections and Industry Portfolio Returns

open access: yesInternational Journal of Finance &Economics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This paper tracks dynamic connections that form among daily US industry portfolio return volatilities using a Bayesian time‐varying parameter VAR model. Market participants often focus on sectors to filter vast amounts of information, and this focus results in cross‐industry return predictability. We characterise connections that form over the

Robust Spectroscopic Analysis Through Image‐Based Spectral Representation and Deep Learning Techniques

open access: yesJournal of Raman Spectroscopy, EarlyView.
This study addresses calibration drift in Raman spectroscopy by transforming 1D spectra into 2D spider plot images processed by pretrained convolutional neural networks. This visualization strategy effectively converts detrimental spectral wavenumber shifts into simple image rotations, allowing the deep learning model to maintain high classification ...

Orthogonal Basis Functions over the Binocular Pupil

open access: yesOpen Astronomy, 2010
Sets of orthogonal basis functions over circular areas - pupils in optical applications - are known in the literature for the full circle (Zernike or Jacobi polynomials) and the annulus.

Matrix Orthogonal Polynomials: A Riemann–Hilbert Approach

open access: yes
In this work we show how to get advantage from the Riemann--Hilbert analysis in order to obtain information about the matrix orthogonal polynomials and functions of second kind associated with a weight matrix. We deduce properties for the recurrence relation coefficients from differential properties of the weight matrix.

Controlling the Center of Mass Motion of Levitated Particles Using Structured Wavefronts

open access: yesLaser &Photonics Reviews, EarlyView.
Optically levitated particles have great potential for quantum‐enhanced sensing. Precise control of the trapping beam is crucial to improve the stability and confinement of these systems. Here, we study how structured wavefronts can be used to control the center‐of‐mass motion of levitated particles, enhancing trap stiffness and enabling stable ...

A companion matrix analogue for orthogonal polynomials

open access: yesLinear Algebra and its Applications, 1975
AbstractGiven a set of orthogonal polynomials {Pi(x)}, it is shown that associated with a polynomial a(x)=∑aipi(x) there is a matrix A which possesses several of the properties of the usual companion form matrix C. An alternative and possibly preferable form A' is also suggested. A similarity transformation between A [orA'] and C is given.

Parallel Vector Processing in Optical Computing With Jacobi Time‐Wave Packets

open access: yesLaser &Photonics Reviews, EarlyView.
Functionality of a single neuron and state of the art photonic acceleration with a Mach‐Zehnder‐interferometer (MZI) mesh (i), a crossbar array (ii) and a micro ring resonator (MRR) array (iii). In the proposed Jacobi time‐wave packet approach (iv) a single modulator (here a ring modulator) is performing the whole scalar vector product in a single ...

Dual‐Metasurface‐Integrated Fiber Array for Bidirectional Cylindrical‐Vector‐Beam Multiplexed Communication Using Off‐Axis Spatial Manipulation

open access: yesLaser &Photonics Reviews, EarlyView.
A dual‐layer metasurface is integrated on a fiber‐array facet to realize compact, plug‐and‐play free‐space optical links with cylindrical vector beam (CVB) space‐division multiplexing. An optimized off‐axis collimation layer steers multiple channels, while a Dammann vortex layer performs polarization–topology conversion for bidirectional CVB (de ...
