Long‐term hippocampal alterations and cognitive impairment in a murine model of surgical sepsis

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Using a mouse model of surgical sepsis, we tested long‐term memory and analyzed the transcriptome of single cells isolated from the hippocampus. Survivor mice showed worse memory, loss of certain brain cell subpopulations, and abnormal immune cell activity—suggesting that post‐sepsis brain alterations may be linked to cognitive deficits.

Cooperative Non-Orthogonal Multiple Access in Cognitive Radio [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Communications Letters, 2016
This letter studies the application of non-orthogonal multiple access to a downlink cognitive radio (termed CR-NOMA) system. A new cooperative transmission scheme is proposed aimed at exploiting the inherent spatial diversity offered by the CR-NOMA system. The closed-form analytical results are developed to show that the cooperative transmission scheme

Structure–Function Decoupling of the Sensorimotor and Default Mode Networks in Black Americans With MS

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background and Objectives Multiple sclerosis (MS) exhibits racially disparate rates of disease progression. Black people with MS (B‐PwMS) experience a more severe disease course than non‐Hispanic White people with MS (NHW‐PwMS). Here we investigated structural and functional connectivity as well as structure–function decoupling in the ...

Joint Beamforming and Power Allocation for Satellite-Terrestrial Integrated Networks With Non-Orthogonal Multiple Access

open access: yesIEEE Journal on Selected Topics in Signal Processing, 2019
In this paper, we propose a joint optimization design for a non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA)-based satellite-terrestrial integrated network (STIN), where a satellite multicast communication network shares the millimeter wave spectrum with a cellular

Cooperative Non-orthogonal Multiple Access With Simultaneous Wireless Information and Power Transfer [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Journal on Selected Areas in Communications, 2015
In this paper, the application of simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT) to nonorthogonal multiple access (NOMA) networks in which users are spatially randomly located is investigated.

Downlink Steered Space-Time Spreading For Multi-Carrier Transmission Over Frequency Selective Channels [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
This paper presents a novel amalgam of Steered Space-Time Spreading (SSTS) and Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA) designed for attaining both spatial diversity gain and beamforming gain for transmission over OFDM-symbol-invariant ...

Quantifying the Impact of Ocrelizumab on Paramagnetic Rim Lesions in Multiple Sclerosis

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Paramagnetic rim lesions (PRLs) are a subset of chronic active multiple sclerosis (MS) lesions marked by iron‐laden microglia and macrophages. Ocrelizumab, a monoclonal antibody targeting CD20+ B cells, suppresses acute MS activity, but its effect on PRLs remains unclear. In a longitudinal study of 29 ocrelizumab‐treated patients with at least

Planar Solid‐State Nanopores Toward Scalable Nanofluidic Integration Based on CMOS Technology

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
We present a scalable silicon‐based fabrication strategy for planar solid‐state nanopores to enable their integration with complex nanofluidic systems. Prototype devices demonstrate normal voltage‐current characteristics, good noise performance, and appreciable streaming currents. Our CMOS‐compatible fabrication process offers precise geometric control
