A Continual Learning Algorithm Based on Orthogonal Gradient Descent Beyond Neural Tangent Kernel Regime

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2023
Continual learning aims to enable neural networks to learn new tasks without catastrophic forgetting of previously learned knowledge. Orthogonal Gradient Descent algorithms have been proposed as an effective solution to mitigate catastrophic forgetting ...

Smooth Orthogonal Projections on Riemannian Manifold [PDF]

open access: yesPotential Analysis, 2020
We construct a decomposition of the identity operator on a Riemannian manifold $M$ as a sum of smooth orthogonal projections subordinate to an open cover of $M$. This extends a decomposition of the real line by smooth orthogonal projection due to Coifman, Meyer and Auscher, Weiss, Wickerhauser, and a similar decomposition when $M$ is the sphere by the ...

Polarization‐resolved femtosecond Vis/IR spectroscopy tailored for resolving weak signals in biological samples using minimal sample volume

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Unique biological samples, such as site‐specific mutant proteins, are available only in limited quantities. Here, we present a polarization‐resolved transient infrared spectroscopy setup with referencing to improve signal‐to‐noise tailored towards tracing small signals. We provide an overview of characterizing the excitation conditions for polarization‐

COMPUTER GRAPHICAL REPRESENTATION, IN TREBLE ORTHOGONAL PROJECTION, OF A POINT

open access: yesJournal of Industrial Design and Engineering Graphics, 2017
In the stages of understanding and study, by students, of descriptive geometry, the treble orthogonal projection of a point, creates problems in the situations in that one or more descriptive coordinates are zero.

Quantum-Inspired Uncertainty Quantification

open access: yesFrontiers in Computer Science, 2022
Reasonable quantification of uncertainty is a major issue of cognitive infocommunications, and logic is a backbone for successful communication. Here, an axiomatic approach to quantum logic, which highlights similarity to and differences to classical ...

Orthogonal projection regularization operators [PDF]

open access: yesNumerical Algorithms, 2007
The authors propose Tikhonov regularization operators of the form \(L = I - W W^T\), with \(W^T W = I\) and easy to be computed. They successfully apply these constructions to iterative and singular value decomposition-based methods. Numerical examples are presented for first kind integral equations and image restoration problems.

Exon 7 splicing of ERα predicts poor prognosis and increases phenotypic heterogeneity in luminal a subtype breast cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
ERα splice variant ERα∆7 lacks the C‐terminus, and its expression may change phenotypes of breast cancers. Our results showed that ERα∆7 is found in the luminal A subtype, and elevated ERα∆7 levels are linked to improved cell survival with lower proliferation and migration.

Restoration of particle number as a good quantum number in BCS theory

open access: yes, 2000
As shown in previous work, number projection can be carried out analytically for states defined in a quasi-particle scheme when the states are expressed in a coherent state representation.

Analysing the significance of small conformational changes and low occupancy states in serial crystallographic data

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This protocol paper outlines methods to establish the success of a time‐resolved serial crystallographic experiment, by means of statistical analysis of timepoint data in reciprocal space and models in real space. We show how to amplify the signal from excited states to visualise structural changes in successful experiments.

Non-Gaussian Component Analysis using Entropy Methods

open access: yes, 2018
Non-Gaussian component analysis (NGCA) is a problem in multidimensional data analysis which, since its formulation in 2006, has attracted considerable attention in statistics and machine learning.
