Evolution of the orthopoxvirus core genome
Orthopoxviruses comprise several relevant pathogens, including the causative agent of smallpox and monkeypox virus. Analysis of orthopoxvirus genome evolution mainly focused on gene gains/losses. We instead analyzed core genes, which are conserved in all orthopoxviruses.
