Coating Artificial Spider Silk Fiber with Magnetic FeCo: An Effective Strategy for Creating a Flexible Magneto‐Responsive Material

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
An original method is presented for producing artificial spider silk fibers with magnetic and magnetomechanical responsiveness, which consists in coating them with a nanometer‐thick layer of FeCo alloy by sputtering deposition. The challenge of combining organic materials and inorganic magnetic nanostructures is addressed, thus taking a step forward ...

Historical Foundation and Practical Guideline for Ferroelectric Switching Kinetic Studies

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The P and U pulses in the conventional PUND measurements are not identical because of the interplay between switching current and the measurement circuit components. This circuit effect can lead to a shift in polarization transients and misinterpreted physics in the switching kinetics.

A simplified oscillation criterion for second-order neutral differential equations in the nonlinear case

open access: yesApplied Mathematics in Science and Engineering
This work investigates the oscillatory behavior of neutral differential equations in the compulsory nonlinear case. We consider the noncanonical situation and establish a multi-condition criterion that is an extension of previous non-neutral results.

Engineering Pendant Group Chemistry to Control Hydrophilicity and Oxidative Degradation of Thioketal‐Based Biomaterials

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Thioketal (TK) polymers are promising biomaterials due to their selective biodegradation by reactive oxygen species (ROS), but they respond slowly to physiologic doses of ROS. Here, the TK bond's pendant groups are modified to enhance the degradation of TK‐based implants both in vitro and in vivo.

Dynamics for Nonlinear Difference Equation

open access: yesAdvances in Difference Equations, 2009
We mainly study the global behavior of the nonlinear difference equation in the title, that is, the global asymptotical stability of zero equilibrium, the existence of unbounded solutions, the existence of period two solutions, the existence of ...

Analysis of the Distance Between Successive Generalized Zeros of First-Order Linear Difference Equations with Several Variable Delays

open access: yesMathematics
This study examines the distances between consecutive generalized zeros of first-order difference equations with several variable delays. We develop new techniques to obtain the upper bounds for these distances.

Complex oscillatory redox dynamics with signaling potential at the edge between normal and pathological mitochondrial function

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology, 2014
The time-keeping properties bestowed by oscillatory behavior on functional rhythms represent an evolutionarily conserved trait in living systems. Mitochondrial networks function as timekeepers maximizing energetic output while tuning reactive oxygen ...

Oscillatory behavior of two nonlinear microbial models of soil carbon decomposition

open access: yes, 2013
A number of nonlinear models have recently been proposed for simulating soil carbon decomposition. Their predictions of soil carbon responses to fresh litter input and warming differ significantly from conventional linear mod- els.

Glissile Interphase Boundaries Enable Collective Phase Switching in Epitaxial Polar Oxides

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A triple point is identified in the phase diagram of low‐symmetry epitaxial BiFeO3 thin film along with an extended regime of phase competition associated with a flattened energy landscape. The electromechanical response is shown to be governed by correlated interphase‐boundary motion, including scale‐free avalanche dynamics characteristic of systems ...
