Cyclometalated Osmium Compounds and beyond: Synthesis, Properties, Applications

open access: yesMolecules, 2021
The synthesis of cyclometalated osmium complexes is usually more complicated than of other transition metals such as Ni, Pd, Pt, Rh, where cyclometalation reactions readily occur via direct activation of C–H bonds.

In Vivo Selectivity and Localization of Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) Induction by Osmium Anticancer Complexes That Circumvent Platinum Resistance

open access: yesJournal of Medicinal Chemistry, 2018
Platinum drugs are widely used for cancer treatment. Other precious metals are promising, but their clinical progress depends on achieving different mechanisms of action to overcome Pt-resistance.

Osmium isotope evidence for two pulses of increased continental weathering linked to Early Jurassic volcanism and climate change

open access: yes, 2016
Large igneous provinces (LIPs) are proposed to have caused a number of episodes of abrupt environmental change by increasing atmospheric CO2 levels, which were subsequently alleviated by drawdown of CO2 via enhanced continental weathering and burial of ...

Crystallographic and Theoretical Study of Osme Bonds in Nitrido-Osmium(VI) Complexes

open access: yesInorganics, 2022
Osme bonds have been recently defined as the attractive interaction between an element of group 8 acting as an electrophile and any atom or group of atoms acting as a nucleophile.

Osmium: An Appraisal of Environmental Exposure [PDF]

open access: diamondEnvironmental Health Perspectives, 1974
In the U.S., the chief source of new osmium is copper refining, where this metal is produced as a byproduct. Probably less than 10% of the osmium in the original copper ore is recovered, and 1000-3000 oz troy of osmium is lost each year to the environment as the toxic, volatile tetroxide from copper smelters.

SNUPN‐Related Muscular Dystrophy: Novel Phenotypic, Pathological and Functional Protein Insights

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective SNUPN‐related muscular dystrophy or LGMDR29 is a new entity that covers from a congenital or childhood onset pure muscular dystrophy to more complex phenotypes combining neurodevelopmental features, cataracts, or spinocerebellar ataxia. So far, 12 different variants have been described.

The Hierarchical Structure of Sheep Wool and Its Impact on Physical Properties

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Sheep wool, a prevalent α‐keratinous fiber, is an essential model for studying protein‐based fibers. Its genetic diversity across breeds enables the establishment of multiscale structure‐property relationships, uncovering previously elusive insights into wool's hierarchical structure.

Unlock the Walnut: How a Pectin‐Rich Suture Tissue and Moisture‐Driven Crack Formation Induce Shell Splitting and Facilitate Seed Germination

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Walnut seeds are enclosed in a remarkably strong shell made of sclerenchyma, separated by a pectin‐rich suture tissue. Different cell shapes and chemical composition of this tissue point to an opening mechanism, which is triggered by cyclic humidity changes.
