Hydraulic and Electro-Osmotic Permeability Coefficients

Journal of the Geotechnical Engineering Division, 1979
Knowledge of hydraulic and electro-osmotic permeability coefficients is required to assess the amount and time rate of consolidation by electro-osmosis. Usually, the coefficients are determined separately. In one method, the pore water is allowed to rise in a vertical tube at the open cathode under a constant voltage gradient. The final electro-osmotic

Activity and osmotic coefficients of aqueous potassium carbonate

The Journal of Chemical Thermodynamics, 1982
Abstract The isopiestic method has been used to determine the osmotic coefficients of aqueous potassium carbonate at molalities ranging from 0.13 to 8.1 mol · kg −1 at 298.15 K. The solubility has been measured both by the isopiestic method and by titration of the saturated solution with hydrochloric acid and is (8.102±0.008) mol · kg −1 .

Osmotic Efficiency Coefficients Across Compacted Clays

Soil Science Society of America Journal, 1966
Abstract Movement of solution through clays in response to salt concentration differences and in response to hydraulic pressure differences was measured. Rate of movement of solution in response to an “osmotic pressure” difference was divided by the rate of movement in response to an energywise equal hydraulic pressure difference to ...

Laboratory determination of the coefficient of electro-osmotic permeability of a soil

Géotechnique, 1973
The note describes the electro-osmotic pressure apparatus used to determine the coefficient of electro-osmotic permeability of soil. A closed pressure system is adapted so that any tendency for water to be transported through the soil specimen is opposed by a rise in pressure at the cathode.

Osmotic coefficients of aqueous polyelectrolyte solutions at low concentrations, 2. dependence of polystyrenesulfonate osmotic coefficients on macroion molecular weight

Die Makromolekulare Chemie, 1974
AbstractThe osmotic coefficients, Φ, of copper polystyrenesulfonates with various average molecular weights of the macroion, M̄ (from 40 000 to 520 000), were measured in aqueous solution and the dependence of Φ on M̄ was investigated. The Φ values are found to be nearly proportional to 1/M̄ at a molality of mc=1.10−3 mol/kg.
