From colloidal dispersions to colloidal pastesthrough solid–liquid separation processes [PDF]
Solid–liquid separation is an operation that starts with a dispersion of solid particles in a liquid and removes some of the liquid from the particles, producing a concentrated solid paste and a clean liquid phase.

Polar Pore Surface of Polyamide Membranes Enabling Efficient Solvent Mixture Separation
A polyamide membrane with polar pore surfaces and relatively large pore is fabricated through interfacial polymerization between polyethyleneimine and trimesoyl chloride. Rapid separation of solvents with polarity differences is achieved by the synergistic effects of pore polarity and size sieving.

Designing of Self‐Dispersing Soft Dendritic Microcleaners for Microplastics Capture and Recovery
The capture and recovery of microplastics from open aquatic systems is a complex problem, which necessitates nontrivial solutions. The principles of a comprehensive multistage process based on sustainably sourced microcleaners with hierarchical morphology are demonstrated.

Donnan Equilibrium Revisited: Coupling between Ion Concentrations, Osmotic Pressure, and Donnan Potential [PDF]
This paper discusses the little-known fact that Donnan's equilibrium criteria established over 100 years ago neglected the coupling between ion concentrations and the osmotic pressure. Such coupling can be treated based on general thermodynamic considerations including the solvent equilibrium, leading to a membrane potential that consists of not only ...

Observations on the physiological development of trout eggs [Translation from: Roux. Arch. f. Entwicklungsmechanik der Organismen, 114. 771, 1929] [PDF]
The osmotic pressure of the perivitelline fluid and the yolk of trout (Salmo trutta) eggs were measured separately by the Drucker-Schrein method. The permeability of the egg membrane and the variations in the osmotic pressure of the eggs when placed in ...

Stress-structure relation in dense colloidal melt under forward and instantaneous reversal of shear
Dense supercooled colloidal melt in forward shear from a quiescent state shows overshoot in shear stress at 10% strain with an unchanged fluid structure at equal stress before and after overshoot.

The nature of osmotic pressure [PDF]
The hemolytic effect of formaldehyde and that of urea, which were first observed by Eisenberg, are found to be, like that of boric acid, the result of osmotic pressure.A comparative, quantitative study of the hemolytic action of these three substances shows that(1) The same degree of osmotic hemolysis is not produced by identical “osmotic ...

Attraction Between Like-Charge Surfaces in Polar Mixtures
We examine the force between two charged surfaces immersed in aqueous mixtures having a coexistence curve. For a homogeneous water-poor phase, as the distance between the surfaces is decreased, a water-rich phase condenses at a distance $D_t$ in the ...
