Osteocalcin, Parathormone and Hypercalciuria

European Urology, 1988
Osteocalcin synthesis is dependent on the influence of the renal vitamin D metabolite, 1,25(OH)2D3. This metabolite is an etiological factor in some hypercalciurias, and osteocalcin may thus be a parameter for discovering them. In turn, parathormone, which stimulates 1,25(OH)2D3 synthesis, is also implicated in the hypercalciurias.

Primary structure of monkey osteocalcin

Biochemistry, 1982
The complete 49-residue amino acid sequence of osteocalcin from the old world monkey Macaca fascicularis has been determined by efficient combination of gas chromatography-mass spectrometry and Edman techniques. This vitamin K dependent protein of bone matrix contains three gamma-carboxyglutamic acid residues at positions 17, 21, and 24, as well as a ...

Osteocalcin metabolism in late fetal life: fetal and maternal osteocalcin levels

Clinica Chimica Acta, 1995
To clarify the osteocalcin metabolism in the fetus, we determined venous osteocalcin levels of 13 women and umbilical arterial and venous osteocalcin levels of their newborns at delivery. Calcium, phosphorus and alkaline phosphatase levels were also established. Umbilical arterial and venous blood calcium and phosphorus levels were significantly higher

[Osteocalcin and hyperthyroidism].

Minerva endocrinologica, 1993
Osteoporosis may be induced by hyperthyroidism through an increase of bone turnover, because bone resorption exceeds formation in this condition. Also therapy with 1-thyroxine, especially by TSH-suppressive doses, may induce a reduction in bone mineral content.

[Osteocalcin and bone].

Clinical calcium, 2008
Osteocalcin (OC) is a product of osteoblasts and accumulated in the extracellular matrix of bone. It has been recognized that serum OC is a marker of osteoblast activity, and the levels reflect the rate of bone formation. The present assay system was developed to assess the major circulating forms of intact and the large N-terminal fragments.

[Osteocalcin and smoking].

Revue du rhumatisme (Ed. francaise : 1993), 1995
Smoking is a risk factor for osteoporosis. Nicotine and nonnicotine tobacco smoke components have been shown to depress osteoblast activity in a number of in vitro and animal studies. To determine whether smoking is associated with depressed osteoblast activity in humans, we measured serum osteocalcin levels (using a radioimmunological method based on ...

[Osteocalcin and osteonetwork].

Clinical calcium, 2017
Nearly nine years ago, new mechanism that bone secretes a hormone called osteocalcin and regulates glucose/energy metabolism was discovered. To date the study of osteocalcin as the bone hormone was progressed well, and the new roles in various tissues, such as glucose metabolism, male fertility, and development of the brain, are demonstrated.
