Osteoinductive hydroxyapatite-coated titanium implants
Biomaterials, 2012Previous studies have shown that heterotopic induction of bone formation by calcium phosphate-based macroporous constructs is set into motion by the geometry of the implanted substrata, i.e. a sequence of repetitive concavities assembled within the macroporous spaces.

Intramembranous bone matrix is osteoinductive
The Anatomical Record, 1994AbstractAll known bone‐derived osteoinductive factors have been isolated from endochondral (EC) bones and all initiate bone induction via EC ossification. However, to date no attempt has been made to isolate comparable factors from bones which form initially and completely via intramembranous (IM) ossification.

Rapid quantitative bioassay of osteoinduction
Journal of Orthopaedic Research, 2000AbstractWe developed a reproducible, relatively rapid bioassay that quantitatively correlates with the osteoinductive capacity of demineralized bone matrix obtained from human long bones. We have found that Saos human osteosarcoma cells proliferate in response to incubation with demineralized bone matrix and that an index of this proliferative activity

Osteoinductive Ability of Human Allograft Formulations
Journal of Periodontology, 2006Background: Bone graft materials are needed in periodontics that are osteoinductive, have good handling characteristics, and have physical properties that provide appropriate stiffness for the treatment site. Demineralized freeze‐dried bone allograft (DFDBA), also called demineralized bone matrix (DBM), is osteoinductive but requires a carrier to meet ...

Osteoinduction: Basic Principles and Developments
2006The term osteoinduction applies to the process by which osteogenesis is aroused. The process itself is a complex mechanism that induces, stimulates and regulates the production of calcified bone matrix. This phenomenon regularly takes place in any type of bone healing process.

Osteoinductive and Osteoconductive Biomaterials
2020With combinatorial approaches getting stronger to design materials with better functionalities and compatibility for restoring bone tissue, it is becoming important to understand the progress and evolution of existing and newly designed materials. For being clinically usable, they should have features that address the biomechanical, biochemical, and ...

AbstractBone grafting is a widely used procedure to treat bone defects. Various synthetic bone substitutes are gaining upon autologous cancellous bone, which is still the most effective graft material, despite the associated morbidity at the harvesting site.

Freeze-dried Saos-2, human osteosarcoma cells, and extracts of Saos-2 cells contain all components necessary to induce ectopic new bone and marrow when implanted into athymic Nu/Nu nuce. On the other hand, human osteosarcoma cells of the U-2 OS strain failed to induce bone formation under the same experimental conditions.

Osteoinduction of porous bioactive titanium metal
Biomaterials, 2004This is the first report of bone induction in a non-osseous site by titanium metal, which has long been recognized as a non-bioactive material. After undergoing specific chemical and thermal treatments, porous bioactive titanium induced bone formation without the need of additional osteogenic cells or osteoinductive agents.

In Vitro Osteoinduction of Demineralized Bone
Artificial Cells, Blood Substitutes, and Biotechnology, 1998Among numerous available materials for osseous repair and reconstruction, those presenting osteoinductive characteristics and promoting bone regeneration are preferable. Fresh autologous bone is one of the most effective, but it has some disadvantages and risks.
