Current Trends in the Enhancement of Biomaterial Osteointegration: Biophysical Stimulation [PDF]
To enhance bone implant osteointegration, many strategies for improving biomaterial properties have been developed which include optimization of implant material, implant design, surface morphology and osteogenetic coatings. Other methods that have been attempted to enhance endogenous bone healing around biomaterials are different forms of biophysical ...

Sandblasted Titanium Osteointegration in Young, Aged and Ovariectomized Sheep [PDF]
To evaluate how aging and estrogen deficiency influence the success rate of Sandblasted Titanium (Ti/SA) implants, the osteointegration of Ti/SA rods was studied in the cortical and trabecular bone of 5 young, 5 aged and 5 ovariectomized (OVX) sheep.

Melatonin stimulates osteointegration of dental implants
Journal of Pineal Research, 2008Abstract: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of the topical application of melatonin on osteointegration of dental implants in Beagle dogs 14 days after their insertion. In preparation for subsequent insertion of dental implants, upper and lower premolars and molars were extracted from 12 Beagle dogs.

Monitoring of Fixture Osteointegration after BAHA® Implantation [PDF]
The osteointegration phase of BAHA® fixture was assessed via electrical impedance spectroscopy in BAHA® implantees. Measurements were carried out by using a prototype device and were correlated with previously published histological data obtained at certain times after surgery, i.e. 1–2 days, 1 week, 1 and 3 months.

The IMZ Osteointegrated Implant System
Dental Clinics of North America, 1989From September 1978 to September 1988, a total of 3088 IMZ implants have been placed in 1401 consecutive cases in our clinic to restore partially or totally edentulous arches. Of the total number of implants placed, 334 implants, or 10.8 per cent, were lost to follow-up (patient death, relocation, so forth).

Osteointegration of orthopaedic devices
Seminars in Immunopathology, 2011The different properties of bone must be considered in order to understand the relation between orthopaedic devices and bone. The epi-/metaphyseal areas are defined by their rigidity, their high vascularity and their quick remodelling process. In contrast, the diaphyses of bone are rather elastic and built of dense, scarcely vascularised bone ...

The role of the periosteum in osteointegration of hydroxyapatite granules
International Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, 1993The role of the periosteum in the osteointegration of hydroxyapatite (HA) granules was studied in the skull and tibial bone of eight adult Göttingen minipigs. Calcein and tetracycline were used as labeling stains to determine new bone formation. Depending on the condition of the periosteum, three different patterns of osteointegration of HA were found.
