First detection of Ostreid herpesvirus 1 in wild Crassostrea gigas in Argentina [PDF]
Ostreid herpesvirus 1 (OsHV-1) is a DNA virus of the genus Ostreavirus (Malacoherpesviridae family, Herpesvirales order). Worldwide, OsHV-1 and its microvariants have been associated with increased mortality of Pacific oysters, Crassostrea gigas. Adult asymptomatic oysters also have shown a high prevalence of viral infection.

Objective To demonstrate that OsHV‐1 microvariant was limited to the known infected areas in New South Wales at the time of the survey in 2011. Design A 2‐stage survey to demonstrate probability of infection at 2% design prevalence within oyster growing regions and to detect at least one infected region (4% design prevalence) with 95% confidence ...

Applying genetic technologies to combat infectious diseases in aquaculture
Abstract Disease and parasitism cause major welfare, environmental and economic concerns for global aquaculture. In this review, we examine the status and potential of technologies that exploit genetic variation in host resistance to tackle this problem.

Immune Control of Herpesvirus Infection in Molluscs
Molluscan herpesviruses that are capable of infecting economically important species of abalone and oysters have caused significant losses in production due to the high mortality rate of infected animals.

Genome‐wide association and genomic selection in aquaculture
Abstract Recent advancements in genomic technologies have led to the discovery and application of DNA‐markers [e.g. single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs)] for the genetic improvement of several aquaculture species. The identification of specific genomic regions associated with economically important traits, using, for example, genome‐wide association ...

Detection of ostreid herpesvirus 1 DNA by PCR in bivalve molluscs: A critical review [PDF]
Herpes-like viral infections have been reported in different bivalve mollusc species throughout the world. High mortalities among hatchery-reared larvae and juveniles of different bivalve species have been associated often with such infections. The diagnosis of herpes-like viruses in bivalve molluscs has been performed traditionally by light and ...

Infectious spleen and kidney necrosis virus (ISKNV) is a species within the genus Megalocytivirus (family Iridoviridae), which causes high mortality disease in many freshwater and marine fish species. ISKNV was first reported in Asia and is an emerging threat to aquaculture with increasing global distribution, in part due to its presence in ornamental ...

Survey of Ostreid Herpesvirus 1 (OsHV-1) Susceptible Hosts Based on in situ LAMP Technique
Ostreid herpesvirus 1 (OsHV-1) has caused a serious economic loss to the global bivalve aquaculture industry. Given its wide host range and the frequent emergence of mutated strains, OsHV-1 infection threatens mollusk production.

Novel RNA viruses in oysters revealed by virome
Eighteen novel RNA viruses were found in Crassostrea hongkongensis. Phylogenic analysis shows evidence of recombination between major genes of viruses. Picobirnaviruses are ubiquitous and abundant in oysters.
