Dynamics of the Pacific oyster pathobiota during mortality episodes in Europe assessed by 16S rRNA gene profiling and a new target enrichment next‐generation sequencing strategy

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology, Volume 21, Issue 12, Page 4548-4562, December 2019., 2019
Summary Infectious agents such as the bacteria Vibrio aestuarianus or Ostreid herpesvirus 1 have been repeatedly associated with dramatic disease outbreaks of Crassostrea gigas beds in Europe. Beside roles played by these pathogens, microbial infections in C.

NEDDylation is essential for Kaposi's sarcoma-associated herpesvirus latency and lytic reactivation and represents a novel anti-KSHV target. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Kaposi's sarcoma-associated herpesvirus (KSHV) is the causative agent of Kaposi's sarcoma (KS) and primary effusion lymphoma (PEL), which are aggressive malignancies associated with immunocompromised patients.

RNA‐Based Biopesticides: Pioneering Precision Solutions for Sustainable Aquaculture in China

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, Volume 3, Issue 2, Page 165-176, May 2025.
The Chinese dragon represents RNA biopesticides, which effectively counteract bacterial, viral, and parasitic threats, safeguarding aquatic life. This method is precise, focusing solely on harmful agents and sparing beneficial aquaculture species. Its innovative nature protects aquatic environments while reducing ecological footprint.

Signatures of selection for bonamiosis resistance in European flat oyster (Ostrea edulis): New genomic tools for breeding programs and management of natural resources

open access: yesEvolutionary Applications, Volume 12, Issue 9, Page 1781-1796, October 2019., 2019
Abstract The European flat oyster (Ostrea edulis) is a highly appreciated mollusk with an important aquaculture production throughout the 20th century, in addition to playing an important role on coastal ecosystems. Overexploitation of natural beds, habitat degradation, introduction of non‐native species, and epidemic outbreaks have severely affected ...

Multiple human herpesvirus-8 infection [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
In Malawian patients with Kaposi sarcoma (KS) and their relatives, we investigated nucleotide-sequence variation in human herpesvirus-8 (HHV-8) subgenomic DNA, amplified from oral and blood samples by use of polymerase chain reaction.

Genome of Kumamoto Oyster Crassostrea sikamea Provides Insights Into Bivalve Evolution and Environmental Adaptation

open access: yesEvolutionary Applications, Volume 18, Issue 4, April 2025.
ABSTRACT The Kumamoto oyster, Crassostrea sikamea, is a marine bivalve naturally distributed along the coasts of southern China and southern Japan, with a hatchery population that has been under domestication in the United States since its introduction from Japan in the 1940s.

Environmental RNA‐Based Surveillance of Viral Hemorrhagic Septicemia Virus (VHSV) in Olive Flounder (Paralichthys olivaceus) Aquaculture: Detection Dynamics and Risk Assessment

open access: yesEnvironmental DNA, Volume 7, Issue 2, March/April 2025.
ABSTRACT Viral hemorrhagic septicemia virus (VHSV) is a major pathogen in aquaculture worldwide, causing significant outbreaks through waterborne transmission. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of environmental RNA (eRNA)‐based surveillance for detecting VHSV in aquaculture systems, focusing on the relationship between infection dynamics ...

Identification and characterization of ostreid herpesvirus 1 associated with massive mortalities of Scapharca broughtonii broodstocks in China [PDF]

open access: yesDiseases of Aquatic Organisms, 2016
In the early summer of 2012 and 2013, mass mortalities of blood ark shell (Scapharca [Anadara] broughtonii), broodstocks were reported in several hatcheries on the coast of northern China. Clinical signs including slow response, gaping valves and pale visceral mass were observed in diseased individuals.

Dual transcriptomics of virus-host interactions: comparing two Pacific oyster families presenting contrasted susceptibility to ostreid herpesvirus 1. [PDF]

open access: yesBMC Genomics, 2014
Background: Massive mortality outbreaks affecting Pacific oyster (Crassostrea gigas) spat in various countries have been associated with the detection of a herpesvirus called ostreid herpesvirus type 1 (OsHV-1).

Summer mortalities and detection of ostreid herpesvirus microvariant in Pacific oyster Crassostrea gigas in Sweden and Norway [PDF]

open access: yesDiseases of Aquatic Organisms, 2016
The Pacific oyster Crassostrea gigas has recently expanded its range in Scandinavia. The expansion is presumably a result of northwards larval drift. Massive settlements were recorded in many areas along the Swedish west coast and southern Norway in 2013 and 2014. After the spawning season in 2014, the temperature of the surface water peaked at 24-26°C.
