Simulating quantum field theory with a quantum computer [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Forthcoming exascale digital computers will further advance our knowledge of quantum chromodynamics, but formidable challenges will remain. In particular, Euclidean Monte Carlo methods are not well suited for studying real-time evolution in hadronic ...

Investigation of Laser Ablation and Brush Pre‐Treatments for AlCu Cold Roll Bonding in Oxygen‐Free Conditions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
It is shown that laser ablation pretreatment under oxygen‐free conditions enables copper–aluminium bonding at significantly lower deformation degrees and improved properties compared to mechanical brushing. Laser ablation further increases interface contact area and induces favourable residual stress states and microstructural compatibility ...

Quantized axial charge in the Hamiltonian approach to Wilson fermions

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics
We investigate the Hamiltonian formulation of 1+1 D staggered fermions and reconstruct vector and axial charge operators, found by Arkya Chatterjee et al., using the Wilson fermion formalism.

Simulating causal collapse models

open access: yes, 2004
We present simulations of causal dynamical collapse models of field theories on a 1+1 null lattice. We use our simulations to compare and contrast two possible interpretations of the models, one in which the field values are real and the other in which ...

Application of Raman and Photoluminescence Spectroscopy to MgO‐C Refractories

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Visible to near infrared luminescence of MgO is studied on MgO‐C bricks and nominally pure MgO powder, with focus on two similar sharp high‐intensity signals, at 699 and 871 nm, each surrounded by symmetrical sidebands. The nature of these sidebands is investigated by temperature‐dependent spectroscopic measurements, confirming phonon involvement by ...

Effective field theories on subspaces of the Bruhat-Tits tree

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics
On two subspaces of the Bruhat-Tits tree, effective actions are calculated. The limits of these effective field theories are found to be the same conformal field theory over p-adic numbers when subspaces are taken to the boundary of the tree.

BRST Quantisation and the Product Formula for the Ray-Singer Torsion

open access: yes, 1993
We give a quantum field theoretic derivation of the formula obeyed by the Ray-Singer torsion on product manifolds. Such a derivation has proved elusive up to now.

Entanglement renormalization and gauge symmetry [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
A lattice gauge theory is described by a redundantly large vector space that is subject to local constraints, and can be regarded as the low energy limit of an extended lattice model with a local symmetry. We propose a numerical coarse-graining scheme to

Phenomenological and Physically Based Modeling of Flow Stress and Strengthening Mechanism of Inconel 718

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Nickel‐based alloys are widely used in high‐temperature applications due to their excellent mechanical strength and oxidation resistance. However, properties such as high‐temperature strength and pronounced work‐hardening make them difficult to machine.

Color Dynamics in External Fields

open access: yes, 2005
We investigate the vacuum dynamics of U(1), SU(2), and SU(3) lattice gauge theories in presence of external (chromo)magnetic fields, both in (3+1) and (2+1) dimensions.
