Bacterial AsmA Proteins Transfer Glycerophospholipids Between Membranes

open access: yesContact
Gram-negative bacteria are surrounded by inner and outer membranes whose glycerophospholipid building blocks are synthesized in the inner membrane and redistributed to the outer membrane by poorly understood mechanisms.

Life‐Like Ferrous Oxide Microspheres from Kombucha

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Kombucha bacterial cellulose, sodium alginate, and ferrous nitrate self‐assemble into membrane‐enclosed iron oxide microspheres. These microspheres bud daughter vesicles, sustain 24‐h electrochemical oscillations, and filter theta‐band signals.

Wood‐Derived Nanocellulose‐Biocarbon Fresnel‐Zone Plate Lenses for Sub‐THz Frequency Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Wood‐derived nanocellulose and lignin‐based biocarbon were combined to fabricate fully bio‐based Fresnel zone plate (FZP) lenses for sub‐terahertz frequencies. These sustainable FZP lenses exhibit low dielectric loss and high directivity, achieving performance comparable to that of metallic references, and remain functional under environmental stress ...

4D–Printed Photothermally Actuated Soft Microgripper on an Optical Fiber Tip for Biomedical Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
In this study, we developed a light–driven soft microgripper by 3D–printing a photo–crosslinkable, temperature–responsive hydrogel with embedded silver particles onto an optical fiber tip. The microgripper actuates via photothermal effects at cell culture temperature and can gently grasp spheroids without minimal damage, offering a compact, actuator ...
