Infrared laser sampling of low volumes combined with shotgun lipidomics reveals lipid markers in palatine tonsil carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Nanosecond infrared laser (NIRL) low‐volume sampling combined with shotgun lipidomics uncovers distinct lipidome alterations in oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC) of the palatine tonsil. Several lipid species consistently differentiate tumor from healthy tissue, highlighting their potential as diagnostic markers.

Stock market crashes are outliers

open access: yes, 1997
We call attention against what seems to a widely held misconception according to which large crashes are the largest events of distributions of price variations with fat tails.

On the nature of Seyfert galaxies with high [OIII]5007 blueshifts [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
We have studied the properties of Seyfert galaxies with high [OIII]5007 blueshifts (`blue outliers'), originally identified because of their strong deviation from the M_BH - sigma relation of normal, narrow-line Seyfert 1 (NLS1) and broad-line Seyfert 1 (

Tumor mutational burden as a determinant of metastatic dissemination patterns

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study performed a comprehensive analysis of genomic data to elucidate whether metastasis in certain organs share genetic characteristics regardless of cancer type. No robust mutational patterns were identified across different metastatic locations and cancer types.

A Flexible Smoother Adapted to Censored Data With Outliers and Its Application to SARS-CoV-2 Monitoring in Wastewater

open access: yesFrontiers in Applied Mathematics and Statistics, 2022
A sentinel network, Obépine, has been designed to monitor SARS-CoV-2 viral load in wastewaters arriving at wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) in France as an indirect macro-epidemiological parameter.

Subtype‐specific enhancer RNAs define transcriptional regulators and prognosis in breast cancers

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study employed machine learning methodologies to perform the subtype‐specific classification of RNA‐seq data sets, which are mapped on enhancers from TCGA‐derived breast cancer patients. Their integration with gene expression (referred to as ProxCReAM eRNAs) and chromatin accessibility profiles has the potential to identify lineage‐specific and ...

Sensing Accuracy Enhancement of Phase-Sensitive Optical Frequency Domain Reflectometry Using Hybrid Hampel-Median Filter

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal
We propose a novel filter scheme to enhance the sensing accuracy of phase-sensitive optical frequency domain reflectometer (Φ-OFDR) while maintaining high spatial resolution via cascading Hampel filter and median filter.

Outlier detection in multivariate time series via projection pursuit [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
This article uses Projection Pursuit methods to develop a procedure for detecting outliers in a multivariate time series. We show that testing for outliers in some projection directions could be more powerful than testing the multivariate series directly.

A Parametric Framework for the Comparison of Methods of Very Robust Regression [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
There are several methods for obtaining very robust estimates of regression parameters that asymptotically resist 50% of outliers in the data. Differences in the behaviour of these algorithms depend on the distance between the regression data and the ...

Targeted modulation of IGFL2‐AS1 reveals its translational potential in cervical adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cervical adenocarcinoma patients face worse outcomes than squamous cell carcinoma counterparts despite similar treatment. The identification of IGFL2‐AS1's differential expression provides a molecular basis for distinguishing these histotypes, paving the way for personalized therapies and improved survival in vulnerable populations globally.
