Ovarian enzymatically active stromal cells can be a promoter of ovarian surface epithelial tumor

Medical Hypotheses, 2011
Surface epithelial tumors (SETs) are the most common neoplasms of the ovary. They are traditionally thought derived from the ovarian surface or, as a recent hypothesis suggests, from various sources outside of ovary. Enzymatically active stromal cells (EASCs) are scattered in stroma of ovary, and characterized by their steroid-producing ability.

Tight juntion in ovarian surface epithelium and epithelial ovarian tumors

2007
Epithelial ovarian cancer originating from ovarian surface epithelium (OSE) is the most lethal type of gynecological cancer among women worldwide. The poor understanding of the cellular and molecular events associated with ovarian carcinogenesis leads to difficulties in early diagnosis and in efficient treatment.

The Cell of Origin of Ovarian Epithelial Tumors and the Ovarian Surface Epithelium Dogma: Does the Emperor Have No Clothes?

Gynecologic Oncology, 1999
The widely favored hypothesis that ovarian epithelial tumors arise from the mesothelial cell layer lining the ovarian surface fails to explain the resemblance of these tumors to those arising in organs that are embryologically derived from the Müllerian ducts such as fallopian tubes, endometrium, and endocervix.

To assess the utility of proliferative marker Ki-67 in surface epithelial ovarian tumor

Journal of Datta Meghe Institute of Medical Sciences University, 2019
Background: Surface epithelial ovarian tumor (SEOT) accounts for more than 90% of all the ovarian tumors and are the most lethal one. Cellular proliferation plays a significant role in the clinical behavior and aggressiveness of ovarian tumor. Proliferative activity of the tumor can be assessed using the proliferative marker Ki-67, which has both ...

Detection of cancer stem cells in ovarian malignant surface epithelial tumors by immunohistochemical expression of CD133

Egyptian Journal of Pathology, 2012
Background Cancer stem cells (CSCs) are believed to comprise a limited percentage of the malignant tumor cells; yet, they are considered the driving force behind cancer. The presence of such cells could explain why cancer often relapses despite a complete clinical remission with initial therapy; with time, a few

Subclassification of Ovarian Surface Epithelial Tumors Based on Correlation of Histologic and Molecular Pathologic Data

International Journal of Gynecological Pathology, 2004
Surface epithelial tumors are a large and heterogeneous group of neoplasms that are subclassified based on cell type and malignant potential. The objective of this review is to examine the correlations between recent molecular pathology data and the traditional histopathologic classification of surface epithelial tumors. By doing so, 6 distinct subsets

Differences in the Angiogenesis of Benign and Malignant Surface Epithelial Ovarian Tumors Demonstrated by Microvessel Density and Immunohistochemistry

Journal of Interdisciplinary Histopathology, 2013
OBJECTIVES: Angiogenesis plays a key role in tumor growth and metastasis. The analysis of tumor vascularization by microvessel density (MVD) and its prognostic significance has been evaluated in many tumors including ovary. However, very few studies have tried to evaluate the characteristics of these vessels.

Steroid hormonal regulation of proliferative, p53 tumor suppressor, and apoptotic responses of sheep ovarian surface epithelial cells

Molecular and Cellular Endocrinology, 2002
Ovarian surface epithelial cells have been implicated in the genesis of common ovarian cancers. The integrity of DNA of ovarian surface epithelial cells contiguous with the ovulatory stigma becomes compromised during the rupture process; most cells degenerate by apoptosis, however some, bearing sublethal lesions, persist along the margins of ovulated ...

Evaluation of the role of HIF-1α and GLUT-1 in the pathogenesis of ovarian surface epithelial tumors and their prognostic impact

Egyptian Journal of Pathology, 2018
Objective The study aims to evaluate the role of HIF-1α and GLUT-1 expressions in the pathogenesis of ovarian surface epithelial tumors and their prognostic impact. Background Ovarian carcinoma is the most lethal gynecological ...
