Abstract 1. 1. Among 50,495 pregnancies followed at three Kaiser Foundation hospitals in Southern California (1953 through 1962), 62 ovarian tumors were noted, for an incidence of 1:815. 2. 2. The criterion for surgical intervention, in the pregnant as in the nonpregnant woman, was the presence of an ovarian cyst of 6 cm. or more in diameter.

Borderline ovarian tumors (BOTs) represent a small subset of epithelial ovarian cancers that were first described more than 70 years ago. Recognized in a systematic way in only the last three decades, BOTs occur most often in women in their reproductive years but are associated with an excellent long-term prognosis.

Enzyme histochemistry of ovarian tumors
American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, 1968Abstract The activities of 6-hydrolytic enzymes and 5-dehydrogenases were investigated histochemically in 94 ovarian tumors. The activities of several enzyme systems (alkaline phosphatase, 5-nucleotidase, and nonspecific esterases) suggest anaplastic ovarian carcinoma to be related to or derived from papillary adenocarcinoma.
