A novel over-voltage protection method for 600V SPIC
Journal of Electronics (China), 2002A novel over-voltage protection method for 600V SPIC (Smart Power IC) is proposed in this paper. The combining FFLRs (Floating Field Limiting Rings) system is designed to be a voltage detector. The detector’s voltage can turn off the switch of the APFC (Active Power Factor Correction) circuit and the bus voltage would fall from 600VDC to 300VDC, so the

An over-voltage protection circuit for CMOS power amplifiers
2008 15th IEEE International Conference on Electronics, Circuits and Systems, 2008With increasing demand for higher integration and lower cost of mobile communication devices there is a growing trend towards the use of CMOS power amplifiers (PAs) instead of GaAs or SiGe PAs. Although being comparatively inexpensive, CMOS not only suffers from inferior RF performance but also from low breakdown voltages. This gets an issue especially

A matrix converter without diode clamped over-voltage protection
Proceedings IPEMC 2000. Third International Power Electronics and Motion Control Conference (IEEE Cat. No.00EX435), 2002In this paper, the design and testing of a new protection strategy for a matrix power converter feeding an induction motor is described. The new protection strategy, with excellent overvoltage protection, allows to remove the large and expensive diode clamp.

Over-voltage Protection for an X-ray Therapy Tube
The British Journal of Radiology, 1945Owing to the wartime shortage of X-ray tubes, any device which is likely to lead to longer tubelife will probably be of interest to other users of X-ray tubes. Tube life is dependent upon a variety of factors, of which the most important is the running voltage of the tube.

The Innovative Method for Determining Characteristics of Over-Voltage Protection Elements
2006 25th International Conference on Microelectronics, 2006This paper presents an innovative method for efficient characterization of relevant characteristics of non-linear over-voltage protection elements in low-voltage applications. Standard measuring equipment is modified to enable an efficient and repeatable experimental procedure to investigate characteristics of over-voltage diodes and varistors: volt ...

A Compact Over-Voltage Protection Circuit for HBT Power Amplifiers
2006 IEEE MTT-S International Microwave Symposium Digest, 2006This paper presents an over-voltage protection circuit with low capacitance loading and small size. Its operation principles and measured performance will be presented. As a case study, a 5.4-6.0 GHz InGaP/GaAs HBT power amplifier with this compact over-voltage protection circuit, resulting in no degradation in PA performance, is demonstrated.

Research on Commutating Over-Voltage Protection for High Power Converter
EPE Journal, 2014AbstractIn the course of converter normal operation, large transient surges called commutating over-voltage may be generated internally during the commutating process of thyristor. The commutating voltage can effectively be reduced by the RC snubber circuit parallel to thyristor.

Protection of Supervisory Control Lines Against Over-Voltage
Transactions of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers, 1928Supervisory control lines used in the remtote or automatic control of electric plants are subject to overvoltages dangerous to insulation and to operators. These overvoltages may be caused by lightning, crosses with the power lines, or induction from them.

Integrated monolithic over-voltage protection circuit with adjustable threshold voltage
Conference Record of the 2004 IEEE Industry Applications Conference, 2004. 39th IAS Annual Meeting., 2004A new over-voltage protection circuit has been developed. In this protection circuit, the dissipative part is monolithically integrated in the same protected power chip with almost no additional technologic process or modifications. This monolithic integration takes advantage of main switch cooling system to extract over heating.

Snapback circuit model for cascoded NMOS ESD over-voltage protection structures
Electrical Performance of Electrical Packaging (IEEE Cat. No. 03TH8710), 2004This paper presents an equivalent circuit snapback model for the ESD domain operation of merged cascoded NMOS devices. The model reflects the specific breakdown operation of the structure at different gate bias conditions. An example for optimisation of the ESD behaviour of an output driver, utilising this protection device, is presented.
