QUEST FOR A DETRUSOR OVERACTIVITY INDEX
The Journal of Urology, 2002Urge incontinence, which is the predominant type of geriatric incontinence, is generally attributed to detrusor overactivity. However, detrusor overactivity is present in up to half of continent elderly individuals. We postulated that detrusor overactivity associated with urge incontinence would be more severe but there are no established criteria for ...

Pharmacologic treatment for detrusor overactivity
Current Urology Reports, 2002Recent pharmacologic treatment for detrusor overactivity has resulted in more favorable side effect profiles, not only because of the use of different drug delivery systems for older drugs but perhaps also due to the improved bladder selectivity of newer antimuscarinic agents.

Overactive bladder syndrome – focus onto detrusor overactivity
Scandinavian Journal of Urology, 2020To determine in patients with overactive bladder (OAB), urodynamic differences as well to compare the characteristics of patient's, with presence of detrusor overactivity on urodynamics with those with absence of detrusor overactivity.Taking into account the urodynamic findings, the patients with OAB symptoms were categorized into one of two groups ...

Detrusor Overactivity in Hyperchoelsterolemia Rats
LUTS: Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms, 2012Many theories attempt to explain the complex etiology of overactive bladder syndrome (OAB), but the exact mechanisms of the pathophysiology have yet to be fully understood. Recent findings have suggested that hypercholesterolemia is related with detrusor overactivity (DO), which, in turn, is usually associated with OAB.

Innervation of the detrusor muscle bundle in neurogenic detrusor overactivity
BJU International, 2003OBJECTIVE To evaluate the peripheral anatomical distribution of innervation within muscle bundles of the detrusor and the changes arising in neurogenic detrusor overactivity (DO). PATIENTS AND METHODS Full‐thickness samples from the ...

Overactive Bladder and Idiopathic Detrusor Overactivity
2011Overactive bladder (OAB), estimated to afflict up to 33 million Americans, (Stewart et al. 2003) is a condition resulting in a disruption to the normal micturition process. It is a syndrome complex characterized by urinary urgency, frequency and may or may not be accompanied by incontinence.

To evaluate the urodynamic characteristics of neurogenic detrusor overactivity (NDO) secondary to multiple sclerosis (MS) compared with idiopathic DO (IDO) to determine whether urodynamic distinctions could differentiate the different etiologies of DO.The urodynamic characteristics of DO in women with MS (n = 54) were compared with the overactive ...

RE: BIOFEEDBACK TRAINING FOR DETRUSOR OVERACTIVITY IN CHILDREN
The Journal of Urology, 2000We evaluated biofeedback training for incontinence due to detrusor overactivity in children.Included in our study were 22 boys and 17 girls with a mean age of 11.2 years. We noted nighttime incontinence in 3 patients, nighttime incontinence and daytime urinary symptoms in 26, and daytime incontinence in 10.

Shared Pathophysiology of Detrusor Overactivity and Detrusor Underactivity
Current Bladder Dysfunction Reports, 2018Detrusor overactivity (DO) and the associated symptom complex of overactive bladder (OAB) is well-studied with many treatment options. In contrast, detrusor underactivity (DU) and its associated symptom complex, underactive bladder (UAB), is poorly understood.

Recent developments in the management of detrusor overactivity
Current Opinion in Urology, 2003Detrusor overactivity is a relatively common yet embarrassing symptom complex with significant impact on quality of life. The mainstay of current pharmacological treatment involves use of muscarinic receptor antagonists, but their therapeutic efficacy is limited by their troublesome side effects resulting in the non-continuance of treatment in a ...
