Overset grids in compressible flow
7th Computational Physics Conference, 1985Numerical experiments have been performed to investigate the importance of boundary data handling with overset grids in computational fluid dynamics. Experience in using embedded grid techniques in compressible flow has shown that shock waves which cross grid boundaries become ill defined and convergence is generally degraded.

Advance in overset grid schemes - From Chimera to DRAGON grids
AIAA Journal, 1995The authors suggest to use unstructured grids to fill the gap between arbitrarily structured grids. Thereby the overlap of structured grids in the framework of Chimera grids can be avoided. The application of the new grid generation technique, called the DRAGON grid method, is demonstrated for three test cases: the supersonic flow past a cylinder, the ...

An overset grid method for the study of reflex tearing
Mathematical Medicine and Biology, 2008We present an overset grid method to simulate the evolution of human tear film thickness subject to reflex tearing. The free-surface evolution is governed by a single fourth-order non-linear equation derived from lubrication theory with specified film thickness and volume flux at each end.

Compressible lattice Boltzmann method with rotating overset grids
Physical Review E, 2023The numerical instability of the lattice Boltzmann method (LBM) at high Mach or high Reynolds number flow is well identified, and it remains a major barrier to its application in more complex configurations such as moving geometries. This work combines the compressible lattice Boltzmann model with rotating overset grids (the so-called Chimera method ...

On parallel implementations of dynamic overset grid methods
Proceedings of the 1997 ACM/IEEE conference on Supercomputing (CDROM) - Supercomputing '97, 1997This paper explores the parallel performance of structured overset CFD computations for multicomponent bodies in which there is relative motion between component parts. The two processes that dominate the cost of such problems are the flow solution on each component and the inter-grid connectivity solution.

Zipper grids for force and moment computation on overset grids
12th Computational Fluid Dynamics Conference, 1995A scheme is developed to account for the overlapped zones on overset structured surface grids when computing forces and moments for the surface. Grid points in the overlapped zone between grids are blanked. The resulting gaps are then filled by 'zipper grids' which are strings of triangular cells that conform to the original surface. A hybrid composite

A MULTI-TIME-STEP STRATEGY BASED ON AN OPTIMIZED TIME INTERPOLATION SCHEME FOR OVERSET GRIDS
A multi-time-step strategy for overset grids is proposed based on an optimized time interpolation scheme. Time interpolation is adopted in the vicinity of the interface between adjacent blocks, which are marching in time with different time steps ...
