TMEM16A chloride channels in the female reproductive tract and their role in normal and dysfunctional pregnancy and labour

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend TMEM16A plays a pivotal role in setting the duration of the action potential plateau in human uterine smooth muscle. An increase in TMEM16A expression in labour underpins a lengthening of the plateau and this provides time for the contraction to become larger and longer, important for timely successful labour.

The correlation between embryo rescue and hormonal changes in seedless grapes

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science
After normal pollination and fertilization of pseudoparthenocarpic seedless grapes, their embryos often stop developing due to certain developmental factors, resulting in embryo abortion.

MaizeEar‐SAM: Zero‐shot maize ear phenotyping

open access: yesThe Plant Phenome Journal, Volume 9, Issue 1, December 2026.
Abstract Quantifying the variation in yield component traits of maize (Zea mays L.), which collectively determine the overall productivity of this globally significant crop, is critical to plant genetics research, plant breeding, and the development of improved agronomic practices.

Systematic spatial multi-omics analysis reveals large introns as novel regulatory hubs of MIKC-type genes during Ginkgo ovule development

open access: yesIndustrial Crops and Products
Ginkgo biloba, a typical ''living fossil'', exhibits an ovule development process distinct from that of angiosperms, yet its regulatory mechanisms remain unclear.

Autonomous self‐pollination provides reproductive assurance, whereas insect pollination enhances yield in sesame under tropical field conditions

open access: yesAnnals of Applied Biology, Volume 189, Issue 3, November 2026.
This study demonstrates that Sesamum indicum L. combines autonomous self‐pollination and insect‐mediated pollination under tropical field conditions. Autonomous self‐pollination provides reproductive assurance, whereas insect pollination increases grain yield by 28.6%, corresponding to a pollinator dependence of 22%.

The Mechanism of Ovule Abortion in Self-Pollinated ‘Hanfu’ Apple Fruits and Related Gene Screening

open access: yesPlants
Apples exhibit S-RNase-mediated self-incompatibility and typically require cross-pollination in nature. ‘Hanfu’ is a cultivar that produces abundant fruit after self-pollination, although it also shows a high rate of seed abortion afterwards, which ...

Genetic Control of Canalization for Twinning Rates in Polypay and Rambouillet Sheep Using Threshold or Double Hierarchical Generalized Linear Models

open access: yesJournal of Animal Breeding and Genetics, Volume 143, Issue 6, Page 807-820, November 2026.
ABSTRACT In most sheep production systems, the ideal scenario is for every ewe to lamb and successfully raise twins. However, selection for increased number of lambs born (NLB) is often accompanied by a higher incidence of triplet and higher‐order births, which increases management challenges and producer reluctance to intensify selection for this ...
