Fetal development in cattle with multiple ovulations

Treatment of lactating and nonlactating parous cows (n = 379) with 12 mg of FSH-P to evaluate development of multiple bovine fetuses resulted in ovulation rates ranging from 1 to 27 corpora lutea (CL). Fertilization rate (i.e., ova fertilized at 6 to 8 d postmating, 80.0%) was not affected by ovulation rate.

Ovule and seed development in Droseraceae

SUMMARY A structural analysis of ovule and seed development in the four genera of the Droseraceae is given. The ovule primordia of the Droseraceae are dizonate. The integuments are dermal in origin. The ovules of Dionaea, Aldrovanda and Drosera are characterized by nucellar elongation and strongly enlarged cells of the nucellar epidermis.

Ovulation can be induced in mice at any stage of pregnancy by the subcutaneous injection of 5 IU of human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG). There are, however, temporal differences in the percentage of animals ovulating and the average number of eggs ovulated. From days 2 to 11 of pregnancy (day 1 = day of vaginal plug) most animals ovulated 10–12 ova.
