Abstract Bird communities in oceanic islands tend to evolve under reduced predation, making them extremely susceptible to introduced predators. Príncipe Island (São Tomé and Príncipe, Central Africa) harbors 11 endemic bird species and eight introduced mammal species.

The K⁺/Cl− cotransporter (KCC2) limits induced ictal‐like events and their spread in the supragranular layer of human neocortical slices from the seizure‐propagation zone of temporal lobe epilepsy patients. Cl⁻ extrusion is present in supragranular pyramidal neurons but limited under high somatic Cl⁻ load.

Based on distinctive morphological and vocal characters we describe a new species of jewel‐babbler (genus Ptilorrhoa) from the forested karst of the Southern Fold Mountains in Papua New Guinea. The description is based on camera trap data and is presented in accordance with ICZN Declaration 45.
