System Measure for Persistence in Holographic Recording and Application to Singly-Doped and Doubly-Doped Lithium Niobate [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
We define a measure for persistence in holographic recording. Using this measure and the known measures for dynamic range and sensitivity, we compare the performance of singly-doped and doubly-doped LiNbO3 crystals.

Testosterone Influence on Gene Expression in Lacrimal Glands of Mouse Models of Sjögren Syndrome [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Purpose: Sjögren syndrome is an autoimmune disorder that occurs almost exclusively in women and is associated with extensive inflammation in lacrimal tissue, an immune-mediated destruction and/or dysfunction of glandular epithelial cells, and a ...

Photosynthesis under far‐red light—evolutionary adaptations and bioengineering of light‐harvesting complexes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phototrophs evolved light‐harvesting systems adapted for efficient photon capture in habitats enriched in far‐red radiation. A subset of eukaryotic pigment‐binding proteins can absorb far‐red photons via low‐energy chlorophyll states known as red forms.

Optimization of parameters for the dissolution of Mn from manganese nodules with the use of tailings in an acid medium [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Manganese nodules are an attractive source of base metals and critical and rare elements and are required to meet a high demand of today’s industry. In previous studies, it has been shown that high concentrations of reducing agent (Fe) in the system are ...

Mitochondrial fatty acid oxidation is stimulated by red light irradiation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Light at different wavelengths has distinct effects on keratinocyte viability and metabolism. UVA light abrogates metabolic fluxes. Blue and green light have no effect on metabolic fluxes, while red light enhanced oxidative phosphorylation by promoting fatty acid oxidation. Keratinocytes are the primary constituents of sunlight‐exposed epidermis.

Anion exchange membranes for electrochemical oxidation-reduction energy storage system [PDF]

open access: yes
Oxidation-reduction couples in concentrated solutions separated by appropriate ion selective membranes were considered as an attractive approach to bulk electrical energy storage. A key problem is the development of the membrane.

Ion and mixed conducting oxides as catalysts [PDF]

open access: yes, 1992
This paper gives a survey of the catalytic properties of solid oxides which display oxygen ion or mixed (i.e. ionic + electronic) conductivity. Particular consideration is given to the oxidation-reduction reactions of gas phase components, but attention ...

The role of fibroblast growth factors in cell and cancer metabolism

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fibroblast growth factor (FGF) signaling regulates crucial signaling cascades that promote cell proliferation, survival, and metabolism. Therefore, FGFs and their receptors are often dysregulated in human diseases, including cancer, to sustain proliferation and rewire metabolism.

Determination of carbon by the oxidation reduction reaction with chromium [PDF]

open access: yes
Free carbon was determined in silicon and boron carbides in ash, oxides, and other materials by oxidation to carbon dioxide with a mixture of K2Cr2O7 + H2SO4.

Studies on the respiratory pigment of Urechis eggs [PDF]

open access: yes, 1941
Experiments previously reported (1) have shown that the eggs of the Pacific marine worm, Urechis caupo, contain a reversible oxidation-reduction pigment.
