Structural insights and therapeutic targets in Acinetobacter baumannii capsule biosynthesis
Hypervirulent KL49 A. baumannii's capsular polysaccharide contains the nonulosonic acid 8‐epi‐Leg5,7Ac2, synthesized by epimerization via ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC. Crystal structures of ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC reveal their role in CMP‐Leg5,7Ac2 synthesis and regioselective C8 epimerization.

Oxidation Behavior of HVAF-Sprayed NiCoCrAlY Coating in H-2-H2O Environment
Isothermal oxidation behavior of an HVAF-sprayed NiCoCrAlY coating on AISI 304L was studied in an Ar-10 %H-2-20 %H2O environment at 600 A degrees C. Techniques such as BIB/SEM, EDS, and XRD were used to comprehensively characterize the coating and the ...

Reconstructing enzyme evolution by protein engineering
Natural enzyme evolution can be retraced by protein engineering methods such as directed evolution, rational design, and ancestral sequence reconstruction. These approaches reveal how enzymes emerged from ligand‐binding scaffolds, developed varying substrate preferences, formed oligomeric complexes, adapted to environmental changes, and evolved novel ...

Oxidation Behavior and Mechanism of Pentlandite at 973 K (700 °C) in Air
The oxidation behavior of synthetic pentlandite at 973 K (700 °C) under isothermal conditions was investigated. The pentlandite sample (Ni,Fe)9S8 was synthesized from pure components and oxidized at 973 K (700 °C) in air in a muffle furnace.

On the behavior of nitrogen oxides in the stratosphere [PDF]
A summary is presented of the relative importance of the principal aeronomic processes determining the vertical distribution of NO−NO2 in the stratosphere. Formation and destruction of nitric oxide are considered with transport processes for steady-state conditions.

Microbiome‐blood–brain barrier interactions in aging — mechanisms and therapeutic potential
Aging reshapes the gut microbiome (↓SCFA‐producing commensals; ↑pro‐inflammatory outputs), shifting circulating metabolites (↓SCFAs; ↑LPS, ↑TMAO, ↑PAA) that act at the BBB to increase nonspecific transcytosis, alter transport, and promote astrocyte reactivity, heightening brain vulnerability.

Influence of Mn and Al on the high-temperature oxidation behavior of austenitic stainless steels
In this study, the high-temperature oxidation behavior of three low-density austenitic stainless steels in the Fe–Mn–Al–Cr system, designated FMC, 1FMCAl, and 2FMCAl, was systematically investigated to clarify the influence of incremental Al and Mn ...
