The Shewanella oneidensis Fic enzyme SoFic targets the switch‐I region of EF‐Tu for AMPylation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fic enzymes mediate diverse post‐translational modifications across all domains of life, including AMPylation. Prokaryotic EF‐Tu can be AMPylated and deAMPylated by the conserved Fic enzyme SoFic. Structural and biochemical approaches were used to characterize the effect of AMPylation on EF‐Tu, SoFic's enzymatic activities, and the enzyme‐target ...

Exploring the Impact of Chemical Composition on the Oxidation Resistance of 2000 Series Aluminum Alloys using Extreme Vertices Design

open access: yesMaterials Research
This research investigates optimizing the properties of 2024 aluminum alloy using the Extreme Vertices Design (EVD) method and linear regression. It examines the oxidation behavior of the alloy during solubilization heat treatment, specifically focusing ...

Artificial molecular machines and motors—Design and control of nanoscale motion

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Molecules are constantly moving because of thermal fluctuations, but random motion alone cannot be exploited to perform directional tasks. Artificial molecular machines use chemical, electrical, or light energy to bias this motion. Molecular shuttles, rotary motors, and supramolecular pumps illustrate how nanoscale movement can be controlled and ...

Characterization of nano-oxide layers fabricated by ion beam oxidation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
In this paper, a remote O2 ion source is used for the formation of nano-oxide layers. The oxidation efficiency was measured in CoFe-oxide films, and a decrease of the oxide layer with the pan angle and the oxidation pressure is observed.

Oxidation Behavior and Protection Of Refractory Metals

open access: yesCorrosion, 1960
Relative oxidation behavior and degree to which oxide properties affect the oxidation resistance of columbium, tantalum, molybdenum, tungsten and rhenium are presented. Recent work in development of oxidation-resistant columbium and tantalum alloys is reviewed and the current status of protection of molybdenum by cladding and coating discussed.

The heterodimeric amino acid transporters (HAT) of the SLC7/SLC3 family: A structure−function relationships and relevance to human pathology

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Heterodimeric amino acid transporters consist of SLC7 and SLC3 family proteins arranged in a conserved structural organization. They regulate nutrient transport across cell membranes, supporting essential cellular functions. These transporters also contribute to xenobiotic/drug uptake and distribution.

Electrochemical oxidation of oxalic acid and hydrazinium nitrate on platinum in nitric acid media [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Several studies in the literature have investigated the electrochemical effects of oxalic acid and hydrazine on various materials in neutral (pH buffered to 7), basic or weakly acidic media (pH 6).

Oxidation behavior of WC-Co

open access: yesMaterials Science and Engineering: A, 1996
Abstract The high temperature oxidation behavior of WC-Co samples has been investigated. The oxidation rate of WC-Co was found to increase rapidly with temperature above 600 °C and with the oxygen content of the atmosphere. Increasing the Co content led to an improvement in the oxidation behavior.

Metastatic niche shaped by host factors influences disseminated cancer cell fate

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Metastasis is shaped not only by cancer cells but also by the environments they encounter. This review explores how factors such as aging, diet, the microbiome, lifestyle, and environmental exposures remodel organ‐specific niches in the lung, liver, bone, and brain, influencing where metastatic cells survive, remain dormant, or grow, and ultimately ...
