Diversity and potential activity of methanotrophs in high methane-emitting permafrost thaw ponds. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2017
Lakes and ponds derived from thawing permafrost are strong emitters of carbon dioxide and methane to the atmosphere, but little is known about the methane oxidation processes in these waters.

Organic matter degradation and bacterial communities in surface sediment influenced by Procambarus clarkia

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2022
To alleviate excessive organic matter (OM) accumulation in sediments and reduce the risk of endogenous water pollution and eutrophication in aquaculture ponds, an 84-day experiment investigated the effect of the red swamp crayfish Procambarus clarkii on ...

Infrared laser sampling of low volumes combined with shotgun lipidomics reveals lipid markers in palatine tonsil carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Nanosecond infrared laser (NIRL) low‐volume sampling combined with shotgun lipidomics uncovers distinct lipidome alterations in oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC) of the palatine tonsil. Several lipid species consistently differentiate tumor from healthy tissue, highlighting their potential as diagnostic markers.

Peroxidasin enables melanoma immune escape by inhibiting natural killer cell cytotoxicity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Peroxidasin (PXDN) is secreted by melanoma cells and binds the NK cell receptor NKG2D, thereby suppressing NK cell activation and cytotoxicity. PXDN depletion restores NKG2D signaling and enables effective NK cell–mediated melanoma killing. These findings identify PXDN as a previously unrecognized immune evasion factor and a potential target to improve

A survey of microplastics in wastewater from large-scale dairy farms and their surroundings in inner Mongolia of China

open access: yesEmerging Contaminants
Microplastics (MPs), tiny polymeric particles resulting from the degradation of plastic waste and environmental erosion, pose significant threats to ecosystems, animal health, and human well-being.

Natural organic matter in sedimentary basins and its relation to arsenic in anoxic ground water: the example of West Bengal and its worldwide implications [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
In order to investigate the mechanism of As release to anoxic ground water in alluvial aquifers, the authors sampled ground waters from 3 piezometer nests, 79 shallow (80 m) wells, in an area 750 m by 450 m, just north of Barasat, near Kolkata (Calcutta),

Colorectal cancer‐derived FGF19 is a metabolically active serum biomarker that exerts enteroendocrine effects on mouse liver

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Meta‐transcriptome analysis identified FGF19 as a peptide enteroendocrine hormone associated with colorectal cancer prognosis. In vivo xenograft models showed release of FGF19 into the blood at levels that correlated with tumor volumes. Tumoral‐FGF19 altered murine liver metabolism through FGFR4, thereby reducing bile acid synthesis and increasing ...

Facultative Stabilization Pond: Measuring Biological Oxygen Demand using Mathematical Approaches

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences, 2018
Pollution is a man-made phenomenon. Some pollutants which discharged directly to the environment could create serious pollution problems. Untreated wastewater will cause contamination and even pollution on the water body.
