Atmospheric oxidation in the presence of clouds during the Deep Convective Clouds and Chemistry (DC3) study [PDF]

open access: yesAtmospheric Chemistry and Physics, 2018
Deep convective clouds are critically important to the distribution of atmospheric constituents throughout the troposphere but are difficult environments to study.

Influence of operating conditions and fuel properties on nanostructure of soot particles from diesel engine

open access: yesNihon Kikai Gakkai ronbunshu
The influence of engine operating conditions and fuel properties on the graphite crystallite size of soot particles from a small DI diesel engine were experimentally investigated. To examine the effect of aroma content in fuel on the graphite crystallite,

Speciation of OH reactivity above the canopy of an isoprene-dominated forest [PDF]

open access: yesAtmospheric Chemistry and Physics, 2016
Measurements of OH reactivity, the inverse lifetime of the OH radical, can provide a top–down estimate of the total amount of reactive carbon in an air mass.

Heterogeneous catalysis with encapsulated haem and other synthetic porphyrins: Harnessing the power of porphyrins for oxidation reactions

open access: yesOpen Chemistry, 2018
Encapsulated metalloporphyrins have been widely studied for their use as efficient heterogeneous catalysts, inspired by the known catalytic activity of porphyrins in haemoproteins.

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

By dawn or dusk—how circadian timing rewrites bacterial infection outcomes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The circadian clock shapes immune function, yet its influence on infection outcomes is only beginning to be understood. This review highlights how circadian timing alters host responses to the bacterial pathogens Salmonella enterica, Listeria monocytogenes, and Streptococcus pneumoniae revealing that the effectiveness of immune defense depends not only

Comparison of analytical methods for monitoring autoxidation profiles of authentic lipids

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1987
Oxidation profiles of polyunsaturated fatty acids, their esters, and fatty alcohols were compared by several commonly employed analytical procedures. The extent of lipid peroxidation varied with the structure of the specific lipid class.

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Inhibiting stearoyl‐CoA desaturase suppresses bone metastatic prostate cancer by modulating cellular stress, mTOR signaling, and DNA damage response

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bone metastasis in prostate cancer (PCa) patients is a clinical hurdle due to the poor understanding of the supportive bone microenvironment. Here, we identify stearoyl‐CoA desaturase (SCD) as a tumor‐promoting enzyme and potential therapeutic target in bone metastatic PCa.

The effect of solvent on the kinetics of the oxidation of 3-methyl-2,6-diphenyl-piperidin-4-one by quinolinium fluorochromate in aqueous organic media [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the Serbian Chemical Society, 2001
The kinetics of the oxidation of 3-methyl-2,6-diphenyl-piperidin-4-one by quinolinium fluorochromate (QFC) have been investigated in aqueous solutions of dimethyl sulphoxide, 1,4-dioxane, tert-butanol and acetone. The influence of the added co-solvent on
