Designing oxidation-resistant coatings
JOM, 2000This article examines the historical development of high-temperature, oxidation- and corrosion-resistant coatings, demonstrating how diffusion surface treatments, modified diffusion coatings, the design of M-Cr-Al-X corrosion-resistant overlay coatings, and the application of thermal-barrier coatings can be used to reduce the scaling (oxidation) rate ...

Nitric oxide and vascular insulin resistance
BioFactors, 2009AbstractObesity and type‐II diabetes are growing major health issues worldwide. They are the leading risk factors for vascular insulin resistance, which plays an important role in the pathogenesis of cardiovascular disease, the leading cause of death in developed nations.

Oxidation Resistant Non-Oxide Ceramic Matrix Composites
2008In the present study the oxidation behavior of SiC-fiber based composites (UBE SA3) with a Si 3 N 4 -MoSi 2 matrix has been studied. The composites have been produced by infiltration of ceramic fiber bundles with various slurries, winding by a computer controlled winding-up module and the thermal treatment.

Design for Oxidation Resistance
1997Abstract Alloys intended for use in high-temperature environments rely on the formation of a continuous, compact, slow-growing oxide layer for oxidation, and hot corrosion resistance. This article focuses on the issues related to high-temperature oxidation of superalloys used in gas turbine engine applications.

Oxidative Resistance of Na/K-ATPase
Cellular and Molecular Neurobiology, 19991. Oxidative modification of Na/K-ATPase from brain and kidney has been studied. Brain enzyme has been found to be more sensitive than kidney enzyme to inhibition by both H2O2 and NaOCl. 2. The inhibition of Na/K-ATPase correlates well with the decrease in a number of SH groups, suggesting that the latter belong mainly to ATPase protein and are ...

Antibiotic Resistance from Wastewater Oxidation Ponds
Water Environment Research, 2005In an extensive, multiyear study of antibiotic resistance from wastewater oxidation ponds, five mobile home park wastewater oxidation ponds in Clarke and Oconee counties were shown to be discharging high numbers of antibiotic‐resistant bacteria into the waterways of North Georgia.

Resveratrol increases vascular oxidative stress resistance
American Journal of Physiology-Heart and Circulatory Physiology, 2007Epidemiological studies suggest that Mediterranean diets rich in resveratrol are associated with reduced risk of coronary artery disease. However, the mechanisms by which resveratrol exerts its vasculoprotective effects are not completely understood.

Thermal Cycle Resistance of Oxidation-Resistant Metallic Coatings
International Thermal Spray Conference, 2010Abstract Thermal cycle resistance of Ni-20Cr, Ni-50Cr and CoNiCrAlY coatings manufactured by air plasma spraying was investigated according to a Japanese Industrial Standard "Testing method for thermal cycle resistance of oxidation resistant metallic coatings (JIS H 8452)” established in 2008.

OXIDE/OXIDE COMPOSITE FIBERS FOR ENHANCED CREEP RESISTANCE
1999Aluminum oxide multi-filament tows may be produced at relatively low cost, but are limited by poor creep strength at elevated temperatures. This study compares the creep behavior of alumina tow-fibers with that of recently developed oxide/oxide CMC fibers.

Genetic resistance to malaria, oxidative stress and hemoglobin oxidation.
Parassitologia, 1999I describe a model which posits the molecular basis of some malaria-resistance genes in the interaction between oxidized hemoglobin and membrane components. The model is supported by a considerable body of evidence which indicates that erythrocytes of genetically protected individuals (carriers of sickle cell trait, alpha- and beta-thalassemia, and ...
