A survey of orphan enzyme activities [PDF]
Background Using computational database searches, we have demonstrated previously that no gene sequences could be found for at least 36% of enzyme activities that have been assigned an Enzyme Commission number.

Engineered surface strategies to manage dental implant‐related infections
Abstract When exposed to the oral environment, dental implants, like natural surfaces, become substrates for microbial adhesion and accumulation, often leading to implant‐related infections—one of the main causes of implant failure. These failures impose significant costs on patients, clinicians, and healthcare systems.

COMPARATIVE APPROACHES FOR PLANT GENOMES: UNRAVELING "INTRA" AND "INTER" SPECIES RELATIONSHIPS FROM PRELIMINARY GENE ANNOTATIONS [PDF]
Comparative genomics studies the differences and similarities between different species, to transfer biological information from model organisms to newly sequenced genomes, and to understand the evolutionary forces that drive changes in genomic features ...

Sex and the developmental environment shape molecular networks underlying bronchial responsiveness in mice. A methacholine challenge was performed on 13‐week‐old isogenic male and female offspring (+/− developmental particulate matter exposure) to show that males had significantly higher bronchial responsiveness (red arrows) than females.

The genome of the intracellular bacterium of the coastal bivalve, Solemya velum: a blueprint for thriving in and out of symbiosis [PDF]
Background: Symbioses between chemoautotrophic bacteria and marine invertebrates are rare examples of living systems that are virtually independent of photosynthetic primary production.

In this study maize chloroplastic malate dehydrogenase7 (ZmMDH7), is identified as a Rhizoctonia solani resistance gene in maize. ZmMDH7 is regulated by transcription factor ZmWRKY44 via pathogens challenge to elevate mitochondrial ROS and SA signaling pathway.

This study identified DNA viruses from Qiangyong proglacial lake sediments on the Tibetan Plateau, revealing a highly diverse and previously uncharacterized viral community. These viruses influence microbial community structure and function by infecting key nutrient‐transforming taxa and encoding auxiliary metabolic genes that modulate host metabolism.

Aerobic Actinobacteria belonging to the genus Frigoribacterium were isolated from adelgid Adelges (Aphrastasia) pectinatae collected from a Korean fir tree. Genomic analysis showed that these bacteria encode a range of factors that may be involved in the interactions between Frigoribacterium strains, adelgids and/or Korean fir trees.

Complex salts with potassium counter cations and bisdithiolene oxido molybdate or tungstate anions are water tolerant and soluble in purely aqueous medium. Four different synthetic routes to water‐soluble complexes of the type K2[MOx(dt)2] (M = Mo, W; dt = ene‐1,2‐dithiolate, x = 1, 2) applicable to different ligand precursors are presented.
