Ecological aspects of Bacillus thuringiensis in an Oxisol [PDF]

open access: yesScientia Agricola, 2003
Bacillus thuringiensis is a Gram positive, sporangial bacterium, known for its insecticidal habilities. Survival and conjugation ability of B. thuringiensis strains were investigated; vegetative cells were evaluated in non-sterile soil. Vegetative cells decreased rapidly in number, and after 48 hours the population was predominantly spores.

Dependência espacial da resistência do solo à penetração e do teor de água do solo sob cultivo contínuo de cana-de-açúcar Spatial variability of soil penetration resistance and soil moisture at different periods of sampling under sugarcane crop

The Influence of Soil Properties on the Agronomic Efficacy of Rock Dust: A Comparative Analysis of a Semiarid Ultisol and Global Soil Types

open access: yesJournal of Plant Nutrition and Soil Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background: Enhanced rock weathering (ERW) using silicate rock dust is a promising strategy for soil remineralization and carbon dioxide removal. However, its agronomic efficacy is highly dependent on soil properties. Aim: This study provides a comprehensive comparative analysis of the influence of soil type on the performance of rock dust ...

Physical and Chemical Characterization of Soil in Urban Solid Waste Disposal Area

open access: yesLand Degradation &Development, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Waste generation and subsequent disposal in adequate sites still have limitations in some Brazilian municipalities. Therefore, environmental monitoring of these areas is extremely important, as it helps to preserve the environment. The purpose of this study is to analyze the chemical and physical parameters of soil in a landfill area. For this,

Innovations in polysaccharide‐based hydrogels in sustainable agriculture

open access: yesPolymer International, EarlyView.
Polysaccharide‐based hydrogels are promising in sustainable agriculture, as these natural polymers have the ability to absorb water and nutrients and release them gradually in the soil, in addition to ensuring biodegradability and lower cost. However, some challenges still need to be overcome.

Imazaquin sorption in surface and subsurface soil samples Sorção do imazaquin em amostras de solos superficiais e subsuperficiais

open access: yesPesquisa Agropecuária Brasileira, 2006
The objective of this work was to study the sorption and desorption of imazaquin, in surface and subsurface soil samples from Brazil. Sorption and desorption steps were carried out using batch equilibration and high performance liquid chromatography ...

Improved Cerrado Wetland Mapping Through Seasonal Moisture Metrics, Terrain Information and Semantic Segmentation

open access: yesRemote Sensing in Ecology and Conservation, EarlyView.
Brazil's Cerrado valley wetlands—swamp savanna and gallery forest—are highly important for the biome's water cycle and carbon storage and are susceptible to degradation from the impacts of land use expansion and the climate crisis. In support of their detailed monitoring and assessment, we developed and tested a transferable mapping approach that ...

Advances in organic UV filters for sunscreens over the past decade

open access: yesPhotochemistry and Photobiology, EarlyView.
Highlighted organic UV filter frameworks that have been described for sunscreens over the past decade divided into three groups: derivatives of or inspired by approved organic UV filters, natural product‐based compounds, and miscellaneous. Abstract Ultraviolet (UV) radiation is a major environmental factor in photoaging, erythema, and skin cancer ...

Extraction Kinetics and Molecular Size Fractionation of Humic Substances From Two Brazilian Soils

open access: yesJournal of the Brazilian Chemical Society, 1999
In the present study, the extraction behaviour of humic substances (HS) from an Oxisol and a Mollisol from South Brazil, by using 0.1 and 0.5 mol L-1 NaOH and 0.15 mol L-1 neutral pyrophosphate solutions, respectively, was systematically studied.
