Tumor‐stromal crosstalk and macrophage enrichment are associated with chemotherapy response in bladder cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Chemoresistance in bladder cancer: Macrophage recruitment associated with CXCL1, CXCL5 and CXCL8 expression is characteristic of Gemcitabine/Cisplatin (Gem/Cis) Non‐Responder tumors (right side) while Responder tumors did not show substantial tumor‐stromal crosstalk (left side). All biological icons are attributed to Bioicons: carcinoma, cancerous‐cell‐

Oxygen reduction on a Pt(111) catalyst in HT-PEM fuel cells by density functional theory

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2017
The oxygen reduction reaction plays an important role in the performance of high-temperature proton exchange membrane (HT-PEM) fuel cells. In this study, a molecular dynamics model, which is based on the density functional theory and couples the system’s

The role of lipid metabolism in neuronal senescence

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Disrupted lipid metabolism, through alterations in lipid species or lipid droplet accumulation, can drive neuronal senescence. However, lipid dyshomeostasis can also occur alongside neuronal senescence, further amplifying tissue damage. Delineating how lipid‐induced senescence emerges in neurons and glial cells, and how it contributes to ageing and ...

High performance platinum single atom electrocatalyst for oxygen reduction reaction

open access: yesNature Communications, 2017
High-performance electrocatalysts for the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) typically use platinum (Pt), however its high cost is a hindrance to commercial scale up.

Electrochemistry and spectroelectrochemistry of iron porphyrins in the presence of nitrite [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
The reaction of nitrite with ferric and ferrous porphyrins was examined using visible, infrared and NMR spectroscopy. Solutions of either ferric or ferrous porphyrin were stable in the presence of nitrite, with only complexation reactions being observed.

Dapagliflozin prevents methylglyoxal‐induced retinal cell death in ARPE‐19 cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Diabetic macular oedema is a diabetes complication of the eye, which may lead to permanent blindness. ARPE‐19 are human retinal cells used to study retinal diseases and potential therapeutics. Methylglyoxal is a compound increased in uncontrolled diabetes due to elevated blood glucose.
