Oxygen Therapy [PDF]

open access: yesCanadian Respiratory Journal, 2000
LTOT is prescribed for people with chronic lung disease in whom there is a decrease in the ability of the lungs to supply enough oxygen to the body. The heart is obliged to pump faster to meet the body's oxygen requirements. This may place undue stress

Stochastic multi-scale models of competition within heterogeneous cellular populations: simulation methods and mean-field analysis [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Theoretical Biology, Volume 407, 21 October 2016, Pages 161-183, 2016
We propose a modelling framework to analyse the stochastic behaviour of heterogeneous, multi-scale cellular populations. We illustrate our methodology with a particular example in which we study a population with an oxygen-regulated proliferation rate. Our formulation is based on an age-dependent stochastic process.

A Randomized Trial of High-Flow Oxygen Therapy in Infants with Bronchiolitis [PDF]

open access: yesNew England Journal of Medicine, 2018
BACKGROUND: High-flow oxygen therapy through a nasal cannula has been increasingly used in infants with bronchiolitis, despite limited high-quality evidence of its efficacy.

Heterogeneity of treatment effect: the case for individualising oxygen therapy in critically ill patients [PDF]

open access: yesCrit Care
Oxygen therapy is ubiquitous in critical illness but oxygenation targets to guide therapy remain controversial despite several large randomised controlled trials (RCTs).

Oxygen therapy

open access: yesJournal of Pediatric Critical Care, 2018
Oxygen is life and falls in the category of essential drug. It is vital for cellular function. Oxygen therapy is the administration of oxygen in acute or chronic conditions above higher concentration than atmospheric air to prevent hypoxemia.

The Oxygen–Ozone Adjunct Medical Treatment According to the Protocols from the Italian Scientific Society of Oxygen–Ozone Therapy: How Ozone Applications in the Blood Can Influence Clinical Therapy Success via the Modulation of Cell Biology and Immunity

open access: yesBiology, 2023
Background. Ozone is an allotrope of oxygen whose use in medicine has rapidly grown in recent years. Ozonated blood allows for the use of ozone in a safe modality, as plasma and blood cells are endowed with an antioxidant system able to quench ozone’s ...

Effect of High-Flow Oxygen Therapy vs Conventional Oxygen Therapy on Invasive Mechanical Ventilation and Clinical Recovery in Patients With Severe COVID-19: A Randomized Clinical Trial.

open access: yesJournal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), 2021
Importance The effect of high-flow oxygen therapy vs conventional oxygen therapy has not been established in the setting of severe COVID-19. Objective To determine the effect of high-flow oxygen therapy through a nasal cannula compared with ...

A General Overview on the Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy: Applications, Mechanisms and Translational Opportunities

open access: yesMedicina, 2021
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) consists of using of pure oxygen at increased pressure (in general, 2–3 atmospheres) leading to augmented oxygen levels in the blood (Hyperoxemia) and tissue (Hyperoxia).
