Metagenomes and metagenome-assembled genomes from tidal lagoons at a New York City waterfront park [PDF]

open access: yesPeerJ
New York City parks serve as potential sites of both social and physical climate resilience, but relatively little is known about how microbial organisms and processes contribute to the functioning of these deeply human-impacted ecosystems. We report the

Oysters and Anemia

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Public Health and the Nations Health, 1932
X UTRITIONAL anemia is known to be quite prevalent in children. liN The majority of cases occur between the ages of 3 months and 212 years; however, instances of anemia in children up to 5 years are not unusual. Mackay 1 reports that of the infants under 12 months of age which are brought to London clinics, 45 per cent of the breast-fed and 51 per cent

Investigational eIF2B activator DNL343 modulates the integrated stress response in preclinical models of TDP-43 pathology and individuals with ALS in a randomized clinical trial

open access: yesNature Communications
Neuronal TDP-43 aggregates are a hallmark ALS pathology. The integrated stress response (ISR) occurs downstream of TDP-43 pathology and may promote neurodegeneration.

Oyster-to-Oyster Variability in Levels of Vibrio parahaemolyticus

open access: yesJournal of Food Protection, 2003
This study examined the variability in the levels of total and pathogenic Vibrio parahaemolyticus in individual oysters. Twenty oysters were collected on three occasions (in June, July, and September 2001) from a site near Mobile Bay, Ala. Ten of these oysters were tested immediately, and 10 were tested after 24 h of storage at 26 degrees C.

The Power of Unity: Collective Action and Smallholder Agricultural Performance in West Africa

open access: yesAgribusiness, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We analyze the impact of collective action through farmer‐based organizations (FBOs) on smallholders' farm performance and income inequality in Ghana, Benin, The Gambia, and Mali. We find that FBO membership increases cereal yield in Ghana and The Gambia, legume yield in Mali, ruminant numbers in Benin and The Gambia, and total farm income in ...

Epidemiological Survey and Genomic Insights Into Ostreid Herpesvirus 1 Transmission in the Blood Clam Anadara broughtonii in China (2019–2025)

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
Seven‐year surveillance reveals a cold‐adapted OsHV‐1 lineage in blood clams, with disease onset at 13°C—3–5°C lower than in oysters—and identifies asymptomatic carriers and facility effluent as key transmission routes. ABSTRACT Ostreid herpesvirus 1 (OsHV‐1) poses a major threat to bivalve aquaculture, but its impact on blood clams (Anadara ...

Optimizing Strategies for Non‐Invasive Prospection of Settlements in the Intertidal Zone: A Case Study From the Centre of the Drowned Medieval Village of Tolsende (Scheldt Estuary, the Netherlands)

open access: yesArchaeological Prospection, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Medieval and early modern drowned villages in the intertidal zone of the Scheldt estuary (the Netherlands) constitute intriguing yet largely understudied components of north‐western Europe's underwater cultural heritage. Despite their high archaeological potential as time capsules of past settlement landscapes, research has remained limited ...
