Metabolomic Analysis Reveals Contributions of Citric and Citramalic Acids to Rare Earth Bioleaching by a Paecilomyces Fungus. [PDF]
Conventional methods for extracting rare earth elements from monazite ore require high energy inputs and produce environmentally damaging waste streams. Bioleaching offers a potentially more environmentally friendly alternative extraction process.

Selective oxygenation: The oxidation of 3,4‐dihydro‐2H‐pyran, which can be produced from lignocellulose‐derived furfural, was investigated with various catalysts using O2 as an oxidant in a H2O solvent. 5,6‐dihydro‐2H‐pyran‐2‐one, a value‐added product, was obtained in 52% yield with reusable Pd/C catalyst.

Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are a source for cell-based therapy. Although MSCs have the potential for tissue regeneration, their therapeutic efficacy is restricted by the uremic toxin, p-cresol, in chronic kidney disease (CKD).

Effects of ultrasound on electrochemical oxidation mechanisms of p-substituted phenols at BDD and PbO2 anodes [PDF]
The effects of low-frequency (40 kHz) ultrasound are investigated with regard to the effectiveness and mechanisms of electrochemical oxidation of p-substituted phenols (p-nitrophenol, p-hydroxybenzaldehyde, phenol, p-cresol, and p-methoxyphenol) at BDD ...

In search of cues: dung beetle attraction and the significance of volatile composition of dung [PDF]
Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) provide animals with multiple cues about location, type, and condition of valuable resources such as food. In particular, odour cues are often essential for the localization and discrimination of resources with patchy ...

Heterogeneous Reaction of Gaseous Ozone with Aqueous Iodide in the Presence of Aqueous Organic Species [PDF]
The fast reaction of gaseous ozone, O_3(g), with aqueous iodide, I−(aq), was found to be affected by environmentally relevant cosolutes in experiments using cavity ring-down spectroscopy (CRDS) and electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESIMS) for ...

Molecular Interaction Studies in Binary Liquid Mixtures from Ultrasonic Data
Ultrasonic velocities and densities of the binary liquid mixtures of dimethy1 sulphoxide (DMSO) with phenol, o-cresol, m-cresol, p-cresol and p-chlorophenol at 318.15 K, over the entire composition range were measured.
