Diameter-dependent analytical p–y curves for response analysis of monopiles in sand

open access: yesInternational Journal of Geo-Engineering
Large-diameter monopiles are extensively used to support onshore bridges, port terminals, and offshore wind farms due to their high load-bearing capacity, low settlement and excellent seismic performance.

Comparação do desfecho radiográfico das escolioses idiopáticas do adolescente tratadas com instrumentação híbrida, parafusos pediculares ou ganchos Comparación de los resultados radiológicos en el tratamiento de la escoliosis idiopática del adolescente utilizando instrumentación híbrida, tornillos pediculares o ganchos Comparison of the radiographic outcomes using hybrid constructs, pedicle screws or hook instrumentation for the treatment of idiopathic scoliosis

open access: yesColuna/Columna, 2010

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Constructing irreducible polynomials with prescribed level curves over finite fields

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mathematics and Mathematical Sciences, 2001
We use Eisenstein's irreducibility criterion to prove that there exists an absolutely irreducible polynomial P(X,Y)∈GF(q)[X,Y] with coefficients in the finite field GF(q) with q elements, with prescribed level curves Xc:={(x,y)∈GF(q)2|P(x,y)=c}.

Residual tail twisting in ascidian larvae is stabilized by asymmetric myofibrils that resist bilateral symmetry restoration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...

The human gut microbiome across the life course

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Despite significant individual variation and continuous change throughout life, the human gut microbiome follows some life stage‐specific trends. This article provides a brief overview of how gut microbiome composition shifts across different phases of life. Created in BioRender. Özkurt, E. (2026) https://BioRender.com/8q4nrnc.

Active P-Y Curves for Rigid Walls Supporting Granular Soil

open access: yes, 2023
Abstract In the performance-based design of structures with basement floors, there is interest in quantifying the relationship between the lateral earth pressure and the wall displacement using p-y curves. This paper focuses on studying the development of active earth pressure behind rigid walls in the context of p-y curves.

Septin 9 PB domains coordinate centrosome positioning and microtubule acetylation to control epithelial polarity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Septin 9 polybasic domains couple phosphoinositide‐rich membrane binding to centrosome positioning, Golgi organization, and microtubule acetylation to control epithelial polarity. Their loss disrupts this axis, causing centrosome mispositioning, Golgi fragmentation, reduced microtubule acetylation, and polarity inversion via upregulation of the ...
