EVALUATION OF THREE RAPID TESTS FOR DIAGNOSIS OF P. FALCIPARUM AND P. VIVAX MALARIA IN COLOMBIA [PDF]

open access: yesThe American Journal of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, 2006
The diagnostic capacity of three malaria rapid diagnostic tests (RDTs), NOW-Malaria-ICT, OptiMAL-IT, and Paracheck-Pf, was evaluated against expert microscopy in Colombia. We tested 896 patients, of whom microscopy confirmed 139 P. falciparum, 279 P. vivax, and 13 mixed P.f/P.v infections and 465 negatives.

Role of the spleen in Plasmodium vivax: a reticulocyte-prone non-lethal malaria [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
“Plasmodium vivax” és el paràsit causant de malària humana amb més àmplia distribució i és responsable cada any de 100-300 milions de casos clinics, incloent algunes manifestacions severes i mort. P.

Susceptibility of two karyotypic forms of Anopheles aconitus (Diptera Culicidae) to Plasmodium falciparum and P. vivax [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Four laboratory-raised colonies of two karyotypic forms of Anopheles aconitus, i.e., Form B (Chiang Mai and Phet Buri strains) and C (Chiang Mai and Mae Hong Son strains), were experimentally infected with Plasmodium falciparum and P.

Naturally acquired immune responses to P. vivax merozoite surface protein 3α and merozoite surface protein 9 are associated with reduced risk of P. vivax malaria in young Papua New Guinean children [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Plasmodium vivax is the most geographically widespread human malaria parasite. Cohort studies in Papua New Guinea have identified a rapid onset of immunity against vivax-malaria in children living in highly endemic areas. Although numerous P.

Contrasting Transmission Dynamics of Co-endemic Plasmodium vivax and P. falciparum: Implications for Malaria Control and Elimination. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
BACKGROUND: Outside of Africa, P. falciparum and P. vivax usually coexist. In such co-endemic regions, successful malaria control programs have a greater impact on reducing falciparum malaria, resulting in P.

Quantifying effect of geographic location on epidemiology of Plasmodium vivax malaria. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Recent autochthonous transmission of Plasmodium vivax malaria in previously malaria-free temperate regions has generated renewed interest in the epidemiology of this disease.

The Origins of African Plasmodium vivax; Insights from Mitochondrial Genome Sequencing [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Plasmodium vivax, the second most prevalent of the human malaria parasites, is estimated to affect 75 million people annually. It is very rare, however, in west and central Africa, due to the high prevalence of the Duffy negative phenotype in the human ...

On the epidemiology of Plasmodium vivax malaria: past and present with special reference to the former USSR

open access: yesMalaria Journal, 2018
Presently, many malaria-endemic countries in the world are transitioning towards malaria elimination. Out of the 105 countries with ongoing malaria transmission, 10 countries are classified as being in the pre-elimination phase of malaria control, and 9 ...

African origin of the malaria parasite Plasmodium vivax. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Plasmodium vivax is the leading cause of human malaria in Asia and Latin America but is absent from most of central Africa due to the near fixation of a mutation that inhibits the expression of its receptor, the Duffy antigen, on human erythrocytes.
