Adaptive packet parity coding for loss-packet recovery
2009 IEEE Pacific Rim Conference on Communications, Computers and Signal Processing, 2009An adaptive packet parity coding is proposed for recovering the loss packets over packet loss network links. For every (n-1) packets of data, this coding scheme transmits an error-correcting packet that contains the XOR of the previous (n-1) packets of data.

Packet delay and packet loss in the Internet
Proceedings ISCC 2002 Seventh International Symposium on Computers and Communications, 2003The distribution characteristic of RTT (round-trip time) is an important part of Internet end-to-end behavior characteristics. People have made lots of studies of it, but many conclusions only adapt to the cases of small packet loss rate. We study the RTT characteristics on nearly 40 end-to-end paths in CSTNET and CERNET in China, and draw the ...

Piggyback Packetization of Duplicate Packets for Packet-Loss Resilient Video Transmission
IEICE Transactions on Communications, 2006The transmission of duplicate packets provides a loss-resilience without undue time-delay in the video transmission over packet loss networks. However, this method generally deteriorates the problem of traffic congestion because of the increased bit-rate for duplicate packet transmission.

Estimating TCP Packet Loss Ratio from Sampled ACK Packets
IEICE Transactions on Communications, 2008The advent of various quality-sensitive applications has greatly changed the requirements for IP network management and made the monitoring of individual traffic flows more important. Since the processing costs of per-flow quality monitoring are high, especially in high-speed backbone links, packet sampling techniques have been attracting considerable ...

Proceedings of the 33rd Chinese Control Conference, 2014
This paper studies the stability of state estimation for a discrete-time linear stochastic system, the states of which are measured by multiple sensors and transmitted over multiple wireless channels. Random packet loss process introduced by each wireless channel is modeled by an independent and identically distributed (i.i.d.) Bernoulli process.

Packet reassembly during cell loss
IEEE Network, 1993Asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) is a packet switched data transport system based on short, fixed length cells. Each cell carries a virtual channel indicator (VCI) and virtual path indicator (VPI) in its header. Essential to the services offered by the ATM networks is the ATM adaptation layer (AAL), an ITU-TSS defined layer that adapts the cell-based ...

Packet Loss Reduction During Rerouting
IEEE Communications Letters, 2011When a network failure is detected by an IP router, its routing table is updated for all affected routing entries. The packet loss resulting from this event depends on the network traffic associated with the updated routing table entries. In this paper, we model this process, define packet loss minimization heuristics relying on network traffic ...

PACKET LOSS COMPENSATION IN NETWORKED CONTROL SYSTEMS
IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 2006Abstract The objective of the research described in this paper is to develop a method to compensate data packet losses in the communication between the controller and the plant in a network-based control system and to guarantee stability and safety.

Recovering from Packet Losses in CCSDS Links
2008 4th Advanced Satellite Mobile Systems, 2008Data unit losses in deep space communications are currently faced using retransmission techniques which are however inefficient due to the large round trip delays. For this reason, the Consultative Committee for Space Data Systems (CCSDS) has recently considered packet erasure correcting codes for inclusion in its recommendations for space data system ...

Empirical study of inter-arrival packet times and packet losses
Proceedings 22nd International Conference on Distributed Computing Systems Workshops, 2003A packet switched network such as the Internet provides only the best-effort service for users. Recent studies of the characteristics of packet arrival on a packet switched network have shown a self-similar property with long-range dependence, and also show a heavy-tailed distribution.
