Moutan Cortex Extract Mediates Diabetic Retinopathy by Blocking the ROS‑Triggered HIF‐1α/VEGF Axis in Retinal Pigment Epithelial Cells

open access: yeseFood, Volume 7, Issue 4, August 2026.
Schematic diagram of the mechanism by which Moutan Cortex extract (MCE) ameliorates DR. MCE alleviates retinal structural damage and reduces neovascular lesions by downregulating the ROS/HIF‐1α/VEGF signaling axis. ABSTRACT Moutan Cortex is a functional food ingredient with multiple health benefits, but its effects on diabetic retinopathy (DR) remain ...

Paeonol as a Multi‐Target Therapy for Neurological Disorders: Mechanistic Insights Into Neuroprotection

open access: yesImmunity, Inflammation and Disease, Volume 14, Issue 8, August 2026.
Paeonol (PNL) exhibits neuroprotective effects by reducing oxidative stress, neuroinflammation, and apoptosis. It enhances antioxidant defenses (SOD and GSH), inhibits pro‐inflammatory pathways (NF‐κB and TLR4), and modulates apoptotic proteins (Bcl‐2 and Bax).

A new phenone from the roots of Paeonia suffruticosa Andrews [PDF]

open access: yesNatural Product Research, 2016
Thirteen phenones were obtained from the 70% ethanol extract of Paeonia suffruticosa Andrews. Their structures were determined on the basis of chemical methods and spectral data. Among them, compound 1 was identified as a new compound, and compounds 5 and 13 were obtained from genus Paeonia for the first time.

Harnessing Natural Compounds in Psoriasis: Targeting Cellular Pathways for Effective Therapy

open access: yesPhytotherapy Research, Volume 40, Issue 8, Page 4759-4791, August 2026.
Natural compounds act on key cellular pathways in psoriasis by suppressing keratinocyte hyperproliferation, modulating Th17/IL‐17‐mediated immune responses, and reducing oxidative stress. These multi‐target effects highlight their potential as safer adjunctive therapies alongside conventional treatments.
