The human PAF complex coordinates transcription with events downstream of RNA synthesis.

open access: yesGenes & Development, 2005
The yeast PAF (yPAF) complex interacts with RNA polymerase II and coordinates the setting of histone marks associated with active transcription. We report the isolation and functional characterization of the human PAF (hPAF) complex.

Platelet-activating factor and oxidized phosphatidylcholines do not suppress endotoxin-induced pro-inflammatory signaling among human myeloid and endothelial cells

open access: yesAIMS Allergy and Immunology, 2017
Platelet-activating factor (PAF) and related phospholipid oxidation products termed oxidized phospholipids (OxPLs) promote inflammation. PAF is made in response to bacterial endotoxin-lipopolysaccharide (LPS) that is recognized by Toll-like receptor-4 ...

β3‐adrenoceptor agonism exerts lung protection in a rat model of bronchopulmonary dysplasia

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
The β3‐adrenoceptors agonist BRL37344 promotes lung maturation, preventing the progression of experimental bronchopulmonary dysplasia. Absract Background and Purpose Bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) affects premature newborns, particularly those receiving supplemental oxygen therapy.

Metabolic fate of platelet-activating factor (PAF, 1-O-alkyl-2-acetyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine) and lyso-PAF (1-O-alkyl-2-lyso-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine) in FRTL5 cells

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1998
The metabolism of platelet-activating factor (PAF, 1-O-alkyl-2-acetyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine) and lyso-PAF (1-O-alkyl-2-lyso-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine) was investigated in FRTL5 cells, a normal rat thyroid cell line.

The antifungal protein PAF interferes with PKC/MPK and cAMP/PKA signalling of Aspergillus nidulans

open access: yesMolecular Microbiology, 2009
The Penicillium chrysogenum antifungal protein PAF inhibits polar growth and induces apoptosis in Aspergillus nidulans. We report here that two signalling cascades are implicated in its antifungal activity.

Habitat use and diel activity of insectivorous bats across land‐cover types on an Afrotropical oceanic island

open access: yesConservation Science and Practice, EarlyView.
Using acoustic surveys, we investigated habitat use and diel activity patterns of insectivorous bats across the main land‐use types of the endemic‐rich Príncipe Island, in Central West Africa. We sampled bat activity at 48 sites spanning old‐growth forests, secondary regrowth forests, shaded cocoa plantations, and horticultural areas.
