Byte-Pair Encoding in the Task of Automated Audio Captioning [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
Automated audio captioning (AAC) methods largely use deep learning models where the captions are encoded with one-hot word encoding. One-hot word encoding treats each word as being equally similar to all other words.

SMILES Pair Encoding: A Data-Driven Substructure Tokenization Algorithm for Deep Learning

open access: yes, 2020
SMILES-based deep learning models are slowly emerging as an important research topic in cheminformatics. In this study, we introduce SMILES Pair Encoding (SPE), a data-driven tokenization algorithm.

A pixel pair–based encoding pattern for stereo matching via an adaptively weighted cost

open access: yesIET Image Processing, 2021
Stereo matching, which is a key problem in computer vision, faces the challenge of radiometric distortions. Most of the existing stereo matching methods are based on simple matching cost algorithms and appear the problem of mismatch under radiometric ...

Predicate encryption against master-key tampering attacks

open access: yesCybersecurity, 2019
Many real world attacks often target the implementation of a cryptographic scheme, rather than the algorithm itself, and a system designer has to consider new models that can capture these attacks.

Further genetic heterogeneity for autosomal dominant human sutural cataracts [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
A unique sutural cataract was observed in a 4-generation German family to be transmitted as an isolated autosomal, dominant trait. Since mutations in the gamma-crystallin encoding CRYG genes have previously been demonstrated to be the most frequent ...

Cognitive Load Impairs Evaluative Conditioning, Even When Individual CS and US Stimuli are Successfully Encoded

open access: yesInternational Review of Social Psychology, 2020
Cognitive load has been shown to reduce both Evaluative Conditioning (EC) effects and CS-US pairing memory. This suggests the successful encoding of CS-US pairings is required for eliciting EC effects.

Byte-Pair Encoding for classifying routine clinical electroencephalograms in adults over the lifespan

open access: yes, 2022
Our study considered the problem of classifying routine clinical EEG. We incorporated NLP tools into the workflow for time series classification. We transformed EEG signals into strings of symbols.

Direct Stimulation of Human Hippocampus During Verbal Associative Encoding Enhances Subsequent Memory Recollection

open access: yesFrontiers in Human Neuroscience, 2019
Previous studies have reported conflicting results regarding the effect of direct electrical stimulation of the human hippocampus on memory performance. A major function of the hippocampus is to form associations between individual elements of experience.

Encoding of emotion-paired spatial stimuli in the rodent hippocampus [PDF]

open access: yesFrontiers in Behavioral Neuroscience, 2012
Rats can acquire the cognitive component of CS-US associations between sensory and aversive stimuli without a functional basolateral amygdala (BLA). Thus, other brain regions should support such associations. Some septal/dorsal CA1 (dCA1) neurons respond to both spatial stimuli and footshock, suggesting that dCA1 could be one such region.

Pattern Discovery in Time Series with Byte Pair Encoding

open access: yesCoRR, 2021
The growing popularity of wearable sensors has generated large quantities of temporal physiological and activity data. Ability to analyze this data offers new opportunities for real-time health monitoring and forecasting. However, temporal physiological data presents many analytic challenges: the data is noisy, contains many missing values, and each ...
