Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

Male sperm storage compromises sperm motility in guppies
Sperm senescence can have important evolutionary implications due to its deleterious effects on sperm quality and offspring performance.Consequently, it has been argued that polyandry (female multiple mating) may facilitate the selection of younger ...

Short paired-end reads trump long single-end reads for expression analysis
Background Typical experimental design advice for expression analyses using RNA-seq generally assumes that single-end reads provide robust gene-level expression estimates in a cost-effective manner, and that the additional benefits obtained from paired ...

Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...

Modulation of Homer1 EVH1 domain internal dynamics by putative autism‐associated mutations
The putative autism‐associated M65I and S97L variants of the EVH1 domain of the postsynaptic scaffold protein Homer1 do not exhibit substantial changes in their overall structure or partner binding. Both of them, but especially the M65I variant, show altered internal dynamics relative to the wild‐type domain on the μs‐ms timescale, indicated by the ...

Comparison of two platelet additive solutions
The use of an additive solution for substitution of plasma for storage of leukodepleted platelet concentrates can have many advantages. In this study, a comparison was made between two platelet additive solutions: one containing citrate and acetate (PAS ...

A twice-paired watershed experimental design to assess stacked practices through field-edge monitoring [PDF]
Field experiments that measure impacts of stacked practices are possible and can be aimed at combinations of practices that are most opportune across a watershed or landscape region. If we know watershed responses to conservation will only be observed over decades, we should be willing to invest in long-term, field-scale conservation research ...
