Biotransformation of Phenolics in Spent Liquor from Aqueous Ammonia Pretreatment
Aqueous ammonia pretreatment of poplar releases p‐hydroxybenzamide (pHBAm) and p‐hydroxybenzoic acid (pHBA) into the spent liquor and converts some of the pHBA to phenol. An engineered strain of N. aromaticivorans transforms pHBAm and pHBA into the bioplastic precurso 2‐pyrone‐4,6‐dicarboxylic acid.

Stability analysis of compressed air energy storage caverns transformed from horseshoe‐shapes roadways in an abandoned coal mine is carried out. Mechanochemically synthesized Cr3C2 and Mo2C, incorporated in a polyurethane‐based binder matrix, and applied to stainless steel, show the lowest contact resistance. The Cr3C2 coating provides good corrosion performance, while the Mo2C coating is unable to protect the metal from corrosion.
