A review has been made of the angiographic findings of different benign and malignant pancreatic lesions. The limited need for angiography as a diagnostic procedure is emphasized with guidelines to its indications when such other diagnostic modalities as US and CT are available. The technique, indications and results of pancreatic venography and venous

Transplantation of the Pancreas
Current Diabetes Reports, 2012Pancreas transplantation consistently induces insulin-independence in beta-cell-penic diabetic patients, but at the cost of major surgery and life-long immunosuppression. One year after grafting, patient survival rate now exceeds 95 % across recipient categories, while insulin independence is maintained in some 85 % of simultaneous pancreas and kidney ...

Pancreas and pancreas-kidney transplantation
Current Opinion in Nephrology and Hypertension, 1998Pancreas transplantation consistently results in an insulin-independent normoglycemic state in insulin-dependent diabetic recipients. Registry data show insulin independence is achieved in 80% of simultaneous kidney and pancreas recipients, more than 70% of pancreas after kidney recipients, and more than 60% of nonuremic pancreas transplant alone ...

Cancer of the pancreas is the tenth most frequent cancer in Europe, accounting for some 3% of cancer in both sex. Smoking has been clearly established as a major risk factor affecting the carcinogenesis of pancreatic carcinoma. Diet has also been associated with pancreatic cancer, although no conclusive data are yet available.

Chronic pancreatitis is frequently observed in men drinking approximately 2 g·kg-1day-1 during a mean of 17 years. The diet of these patients is abnormally rich in fat and protein. Giving alcohol and a similar diet to dogs and rats, it has been possible to reproduce chronic alcoholic pancreatitis.

Pancreatic fine-needle biopsy and cytologic evaluation is an important diagnostic tool that is not commonly used in veterinary medicine. This article discusses how to obtain and interpret pancreatic fine-needle biopsies. Normal pancreatic cytology, along with the potential diagnostic pitfalls, is also outlined.

Severe acute pancreatitis with pancreatic necrosis usually precedes a pancreatic abscess. The clinical features are not always dramatic, but when malaise, fever and leucocytosis persist after an attack of severe acute pancreatitis, this complication should be suspected. Surgical drainage of the abscess provides the only hope of survival.
