The Complications of Pancreatectomy

open access: yesAnnals of Surgery, 1988
This paper analyses the early postoperative complications after 285 pancreaticoduodenectomies performed during the past 15 years in the Surgical University Clinic, Mannheim. There were 235 partial (Whipple) and 52 total pancreatectomies performed for pancreatic and periampullary tumors (181 patients) and complicated chronic pancreatitis (104 patients).

Laparoscopic distal pancreatectomy [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Visualized Surgery, 2016
After technological advances and increased experiences, more complicated surgeries including distal pancreatectomy can be easily performed with acceptable oncologic results, and decreased mortality and morbidity. Laparoscopic distal pancreatectomy (LDP) has been shown to have several advantages including less blood loss, less hospital stay, less pain ...

Pancreatic resection in very elderly patients: A critical analysis of existing evidence [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The aging of the population results in a rise of number of elderly patients (aged 80 years and older) with pancreatic or periampullary cancer, and more pancreatectomies could eventually be performed in such complex patients.

Laparoscopic Distal Pancreatectomy [PDF]

open access: yesJSLS : Journal of the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons, 2012
Laparoscopic management of distal pancreatic malignancies has been slow to gain a foothold in all but high-volume tertiary referral centers. The aim of this study was to assess the safety and outcomes of laparoscopic distal pancreatectomy (LDP) performed in a low-volume community hospital by a diverse group of surgeons, none of whom have a specialized ...

Sequential drain amylase to guide drain removal following pancreatectomy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
BACKGROUND: Although used as criterion for early drain removal, postoperative day (POD) 1 drain fluid amylase (DFA) ≤ 5000 U/L has low negative predictive value for clinically relevant postoperative pancreatic fistula (CR-POPF).

The Indications for Laparoscopic Pancreatectomy [PDF]

open access: yesDeutsches Ärzteblatt international, 2017
Laparoscopic pancreatectomy is not yet established as a routine procedure everywhere in Germany or in other countries. Few data are available on its short- and long-term outcomes. From 2008 onward, a working group initiated by 10 centers and currently comprising 34 centers has gathered data on all cases of laparoscopic pancreatectomy.
