Pancreatic duct stenting using endoscopy or surgery is widely used for the management of benign and malignant pancreatic diseases. Endoscopic pancreatic stents are mainly used to relieve pain caused by chronic pancreatitis and pancreas divisum, and to treat pancreatic duct disruption and stenotic pancreaticointestinal anastomosis after surgery.

Pancreatic Ducts and Postoperative Pancreatitis
Archives of Surgery, 1963Sixty years ago, Opie1presented his "Common Channel" theory of the etiology of acute hemorrhagic pancreatitis. The anatomy of the pancreatic ductal septem has been the subject of numerous studies ever since this first report. We have been interested in the anatomy of the ducts of the pancreas relative to the pathogenesis of postoperative pancreatitis.

The formation of the pancreatic duct system is the result of the fusion of 2 embryonic buds, the ventral and dorsal primordia. Frequently, this fusion process is localized in the pancreatic head; variations, however, may account for the structural diversity of the duct system.

Current Treatment Options in Gastroenterology, 2000
The treatment of pancreatic duct strictures is based on an accurate assessment of the etiology of the disease, and then the degree of symptomatology. Our outline for therapy is as follows: Exclude a diagnosis of malignancy by using radiologic, endoscopic, histologic, and molecular biologic modalities.

Redrainage of the pancreatic duct in chronic pancreatitis
The American Journal of Surgery, 1986Recurrent pain after a drainage procedure for chronic pancreatitis is considered an indication for pancreatectomy. To evaluate whether redrainage might be a better alternative, 14 patients who underwent redrainage after a failed pancreaticojejunostomy were reviewed. Patients with previous pseudocyst drainage were excluded.
