The pandemic of nationalism and the nationalism of pandemics

open access: yes, 2020

Understanding Contributors of Resilience in Youth With Childhood‐Onset Systemic Lupus Erythematosus Through a Socioecological Lens: A Mixed‐Methods Study

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective This study aimed to identify themes contributing to resilience in childhood‐onset systemic lupus erythematosus (cSLE), distinguish between profiles of resilience, and examine how they relate to underlying themes and patient characteristics. Methods We conducted a mixed‐methods study of 21 patients with cSLE aged 11 to 19 years at a Canadian ...

Determinants of Influenza Mortality Trends: Age-Period-Cohort Analysis of Influenza Mortality in the United States, 1959-2016. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
This study examines the roles of age, period, and cohort in influenza mortality trends over the years 1959-2016 in the United States. First, we use Lexis surfaces based on Serfling models to highlight influenza mortality patterns as well as to identify ...

Moderators and mediators of pain and function outcomes in a new service delivery model for management of knee osteoarthritis in primary care (PARTNER): Secondary exploratory analysis of a randomized controlled trial

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, Accepted Article.
Objective Explore moderators and mediators influenced changes in pain and function in people with knee osteoarthritis (OA) receiving a new model of primary care service delivery (PARTNER), at 12 months (ACTRN12617001595303). Methods Secondary analyses of a cluster randomized controlled trial comparing PARTNER to usual general practitioner‐delivered ...

Entropy-Based Pandemics Forecasting

open access: yesFrontiers in Physics, 2020
A great variety of natural phenomena follows some statistical distributions. In epidemiology, such as for the current COVID 19 outbreak, it is essential to develop reliable predictions of the evolution of an infectious disease.

Synthetic Strategy for mRNA Encapsulation and Gene Delivery with Nanoscale Metal‐Organic Frameworks

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This research utilizes the ZIF‐8 for the encapsulation and intracellular delivery of nucleic acids, specifically mRNA, for applications in gene delivery. Integrating PEI addresses the issue of mRNA leakage from ZIF‐8, resulting in the delivery and expression of green fluorescent protein (GFP) in vitro and firefly luciferase in vivo.

Application of a Sensitive Capture Sequencing Approach to Reservoir Surveillance Detects Novel Viruses in Zambian Wild Rodents

open access: yesViruses
We utilized a pan-viral capture sequencing assay, VirCapSeq-VERT, to assess viral diversity in rodents from the Eastern Province of Zambia as a model for pre-pandemic viral reservoir surveillance.
